Very good Oliver in the first half. Rosetti must convince himself that he is a top player.

It is absurd to keep Oliver away from Italian teams just because he gave a very clear penalty against Juventus in Madrid. Why deprive Italian teams of an excellent referee just because one team did not like him. Welcome Oliver to Italy, I hope to see him often refereeing with great skill as he always does.

Happy with Sandro Schärer for the Italy game - wonder if it's too late to get press accreditation!

Nice game for Filip Glova, pleased to see him out and about. He's had a fractured season with time out with covid and a few aftereffects of it.

I can't quite recall ever seeing Glova referee, for some reason I think I may recall a positive post from you bmb about one of his performances? Regardless I would be interested on your thoughts on him. Saying that, the referee should be the least of our worries!!

Haha I hear ya! Things not going so well North or South of the non border. I said to someone earlier I would have been cussing out Norn Iron but couldn't as they didn't bother turning up for the game... The GAWA actually booed at the end of the game, I have never in my life heard the GAWA boo!

As to Filip, I have seen him referee live a couple of times in Hungary and once in Slovakia, he was 4O for the game v Turkey, then refereed the San Marino game excellently and then recently he did Hungary v Serbia, which I watched with my Serbian boss - excellent performance again! Even Nebojša liked him, which says a lot, he's a typical football manager who is not a fan of referees! He's always respectful though. He first came to my attention as a as a referee 1st April 2018. I was at FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda v Spartak Trnava in the Slovak top flight and he was the referee.  As an aside he also entered #1 spot on the totty list on that same date...

I like him as a referee. He's not the finished article. He's pretty strict in terms of application of the LOTG but is in the main consistent and fair to both teams and he's certainly not afraid to make the big calls. I recall one game where he gave 3 penalties. Fitness is excellent, movement around the pitch & positioning tend to be decent. He seems to lack a little bit of confidence or self belief maybe at times, I'm judging that by his demeanour not his decision making, he's a first year category 1 referee so still growing. He's only a baby - 33, he's developed well in the 4 years I have been watching him. Maybe needs to work on his man management a bit, he seems to have a permanent scowl on his face and at times has a very cross, unapproachable look! It's not quite the epic Kassai death stare but he'll never be described as a smily ref. He's actually very sweet as a person and smiles a lot off of the pitch so I think it's more where he is still relatively inexperienced and doesn't fully believe in himself yet.

Now a bit of random trivia! He is from Košice which pre Trianon was Kassa in Hungary. He's not ethnic Hungarian, his surname is Ukrainian/Russian in origin. Kassa is however where Kassai's paternal family originated from - Kassai translates as from Kassa (pre Trianon) or from Košice these days. Destined to take Viktor's long held top totty spot! 2 flaws though - he has green eyes and uses a yellow whistle!

Beautiful description of Glova. I have seen him referee and I would say that so far he has received less than he deserves in Europe

Kirill Nikolayevich Levnikov, from St Petersburg, 37 years old . Promoted in 2016 to FIFA referee, son of Nikolai , also FIFA some time ago. Am I missing something? Does anyone remember any of his big mistakes or missed opportunities? He seems a very strong referee

I’ve seen him 4/5 times and he’s been excellent every time

I saw Levnikov for the first time and was impressed. I hope he gets out of the second category soon

General Discussion / Re: Michael Oliver - Arsenal-Chelsea
« on: Sun 27 Dec 2020 10:16 »
Good morning from Italy, I hope you all had a happy Christmas. Last night I watched part of the match won by Arsenal, refereed by Oliver. I haven't seen him in action for a while, maybe a few months. I noticed that he has increased his physical presence, he looks taller, longer, it is possible that he has taken care of his body by training in the gym. It also seems to me that he has slightly modified his running style and his posture, gaining width and strength by making better use of the movement of his arms. Is it only my impression? My compliments to Oliver, he has reached a very high level of athletic performance, undoubtedly at the top in Europe. I am not talking about the other aspects because they are already excellent.
