May I enquire from a refereeing point of view how our learned correspondents view the wisdom of sending a referee to a match with significance for both teams in a county where the referee used to have joint registration and where the brother of the referee used to be a player.
My aged opinion is that it is unfair on the referee, creates unneeded pressure and potentially and needlessly leaves the referee open to accusations of favouring one team.
I am pleased to say that I did not see the match and cannot make any comment on the referee’s performance, but we are supposed to have a thought to Mental Health and the situation would appear to create extra stress .
Personally think it is unfair on the Referee as opens them up to unfounded complaints.

As an away fan at the game the Match Officials were comfortably the best team of the three. No complaints from me about 90th minute penalty which won the game.

Previously The FA appointed a Referee who had been on our books as a youngest to an FA Cup game. The fact appeared on Social Media and the appointment was changed with some other reason being quoted

He did Shrewsbury v Bristol Rovers on New Years Day. He was certainly better than both teams but that wouldnt have been very hard

Abingdon United replay a strange one. The FA website and most other places showing replay Wednesday but both Clubs saying the game is Tuesday.

Known secret..

Referees from level 5 and below do not have to conform/assist the FA on these cup matches so you will find that all appoints that required level 5/6/7/etc, you will find lots of changes.  Some don't want the hassle, some don't even know they have an account to MOAS, some can't be bothered to conform to the protocol of being at the ground an hour before kick-off, some look at the other officials and decided that they can't get on with them, etc.

So from First Round Qualifying onward, you will find less change to original appointments due to their level of officiating.
Just because you are a registered official doesn't mean you have a MOAS account.

There will always be the issue of The FA not having any idea about travel, particularly in the South East. Mate of mine got appointed to FA Youth Cup tie, we questioned distance  with The FA and they said "it's only 30 miles", his reply was " If you are a good swimmer 🤣🤣' ".It was 30 miles as crow flies but 180 miles round trip by road. Don't think Club would have appreciated £70+ mileage claim for 1st qualifying round fixture

Sorry my reply I should have quoted Bristol Rovers v Shrewsbury having nothing riding on it. Pleased football authorities think Shrewsbury are safe.

6
Except we aren't safe yet. Still need another three points at least

Alex was excellent guest speaker at Basildon RA recently. Relocation is a combination of refereeing and his other job in music.

8
Craig Hicks was excellent at Grimsby today. Fully played his part in an excellent afternoon's entertainment. Also showed empathy and understanding to Grimsby celebrations after the first goal. Didn't fall for any injury play acting

Carshalton v Lancing is Tuesday night not Monday. It has now been corrected on The FA website

Thought Harry Jones had an excellent game at Nuneaton Borough today. Great spot for penalty first half and I thought good decision late on not to give penalty for handball to Nuneaton. Other incidents during the game I thought he handled very well.

General Discussion / Re: Accrington v Shrewsbury

Not implying anything. Just stating a fact. Makes me laugh when Arsenal manager moaned about a free kick or penalty not going there way. Yet we have been really unlucky with decisions this season.

Think Bristol Rovers missed red card after 20 minutes was the one which annoyed me at the game as I think match officials were only people not to see it.  Saturday's one was so off the ball would have been amazed if it had been picked up at the time.

Charge raised. 5th time this season The FA have decided a Shrewsbury game has finished with incorrect number of players. 3 overturned red cards and 2 opponents charged after the game for elbowing players. This one I could understand as very off the ball.

Clear elbow off the ball by Accrington playerin first five minutes yesterday. Can understand it being missed until play restarted with a free kick to Shrewsbury.  Of the officials saw enough for a free kick how did player not even get spoken to?
