General Discussion / Re: T HARRINGTON - Man U v Everton« on: Mon 24 Nov 2025 21:00 »
A decision that is probably right within the laws of the game, but I think it's soft, it was more of a push away than a slap/punch and I'll be honest - I preferred football at a time when stuff like that could be let go with a telling off from the referee and a couple of yellow cards personally.
I also think within the law itself he has a bit of discretion here and I feel he should have taken the opportunity to take advantage of that and manage it sensibly. 3

Orient fan here also at the game. Thought he and the refereeing team were excellent - well done. Also well done to Charlton, the best of luck to you for next season.

Select Group - Premier League / Re: EFL Play-Offs 2025« on: Sun 18 May 2025 13:21 »
Back in the day I’m sure select group refs did all PL finals. Since when has this changed?

did anyone see who the player was who spoke to Darren for quite a while before de bruyne?

I think that's the worst VAR call I've seen since it's been introduced. The most straightforward red you're ever likely to see. Tierney should never be put on VAR again after that - simply unbelievable.

General Discussion / Re: F A Cup 3rd Round weekend« on: Sat 11 Jan 2025 22:19 »What a depressing afternoon, apart from Plymouth ! the gulf between the premiership and the rest is staggering. RIP cup shocks. Anyone think the Plymouth goal could (should?) have been ruled out for offside with the striker (strangely!) running miles offside quite close to the vision of the goalkeeper as the shot came in? 8

That one is 100% definitely in the 'leave it with the onfield decision' camp.

General Discussion / 8 rounds in - your thoughts on VAR so far this season« on: Mon 21 Oct 2024 14:43 »
After 8 rounds of matches I was wondering what your thoughts were on VAR so far this season?
Personally I think it has been significantly better this season - 'referees call' has been a great addition to help nudge the tricky 50/50 calls back to the initial onfield decision of the referee and I think that so far that has been working really well in not overturning decisions unnecessarily. From what I can remember personally I can think of only one clear howler so far which was not overturning the Bruno Fernandes red card which in my opinion was clearly was an error (there may be others but I can't think of them off of the top of my head) Also it's been a lot quicker this season I feel (not sure if the stats back this up but I'd be surprised if they didn't) and offsides work so much better now we only see the lines at the final stage. 10

I am dreading Zwayer as our ref, I'm not a huge fan at all. Seen him have a few absolute shockers over the last few years.

Euros 2024 / Semi and Final Predictions« on: Sat 06 Jul 2024 23:06 »
Now we're getting down to the final stages, interested to see who we think is getting the semis and final?
My predictions are: Spain vs France - Szymon Marciniak Netherlands vs England - Slavko Vinčić Final - Daniele Orsato 13
Euros 2024 / Michael Oliver - Portugal vs France« on: Fri 05 Jul 2024 21:17 »
So we've seen both English referees in action today and I must say I much prefer the refereeing style of Michael's over Anthony. His games are somehow more enjoyable to watch and his superb foul detection is probably his best trait and up there with the best in world football.
He also has really good rapport with the players, he very rarely gets dissent because he's very good to deal with and I think the players like him. 15

Really bad from the assistant at the end, completely ruined the refereeing performance. Should never be putting his flag up there...
