A similar performance when he refereed the Watford match here on 4th November. Seems to concern himself more on having a throw in taken in the right place than picking up on fouls.

Perfectly acceptable performance from Mr Allison.

General Discussion / Re: Gary Willard RIP

Very sad news. I first met Gary in the late 70s when he was starting out in refereeing and he ran the line to me on the Sussex County League.

We kept in touch for a long time but not so recently. Deeply saddened to hear this.

RIP Gary.

Mr Ward's usual performance of inconsistency in decision making but not the worst performance we've seen this season.

On another matter not sure why after 13 games we have had Josh Smith 3 times & Gavin Ward twice.

Fourth game in Carabao Cup on Wednesday and we have Lewis Smith for a second time. Surely the appointments can be mixed up a little more!!

I’ve been a fairly consistent supporter of gavin ward on these pages , I hope he’s proud of this one . Match changing decisions. Nothing given . But hey ho it’s only little Plymouth.

Definite red card for DOGSO as the foul was outside the box.

Mr Ward was a fine assistant referee, however in the middle things are well, more challenging shall we say.

Two covering defenders so no DOGSO also, from my view, I'm not convinced Edmundson caught the attacker. He went down too easily.

Oh dear Antony Backhouse, hope that wasn’t a chance of promotion today at Pride Park, very disappointing performance for such a high stake game. Back to the conference league for you! (And Derby were also very bad, so not a sore loser)

From the other side of the fence, I didn't think Mr Backhouse was as bad as many referees we have seen this season.

However, his performance raises an age old moan of mine, why punish two minor time wasting occasions with YCs but allow a rugby tackle & a late tackle, that subsequently sees the injured player taken off, go unpunished??

Cup Appointments / Re: Emirates FA Cup - 2022/2023
« on: Tue 14 Mar 2023 17:57 »
Willard 99-0
Bodenham 97-8 (born Brighton, but based in Cornwall from 1988)
Gunn 93-4
I'm quite sure Martin Bodenham was living in West Sussex for the last few years of his PL career

Welcome to the EFL for Abigail Byrne, albeit as 4O.

Not sure I recall seeing her on the appointments list before but no doubt someone wiser than me will know.

I would concur with the previous comments regarding Ms Welch's performance. To see such a non fussy performance, and refereeing with a smile, is quite rare in League 1. Probably the stand out performance in an Ipswich game this season that I have witnessed.

Perfectly decent performance I thought. On the third goal he played an advantage then Sheff Utd gave the ball away after two passes too late to go back to the original offence.

Good game to watch 3-3 on YCs and the best team won!

Stockbridge definitely being promoted next year, can't say I've seen much of him

Does he deserve a promotion to SG2?
[His performance at Portman Road in the last round of the FA CUP was the best by a referee in a Ipswich Town match this season by far!!]

General Discussion / Oxford Utd v Ipswich Town - Bobby Madden
« on: Sat 21 Jan 2023 23:28 »
This match was played in thick fog which worsened in the second half.

Reports suggest that both managers were happy to abandon the game and play again at a later but, when discussing this with Mr Madden, it is said that he told the managers that as 75 minutes were played the result would stand 1-1 as it was at the time.

I can't see this rule/law anywhere, could someone with greater knowledge confirm or deny please?

Oxford Utd won 2-1

If memory serves me right, Pete Helsby was in the Forces. Possibly Navy as he was based in Portsmouth.

Probably the second best performance by a referee at Portman Road this season.

Question mark over a possible Ipswich penalty in the first half. The Ipswich penalty was given by the AR on that side, but they both missed the goalkeeper being a couple of feet off his line when the kick was taken.

Overall very good.

The best performance this season was by a certain Mr Breakspear.
