I'm Norwegian and it pleases me very much that he performes so well internationally. A very good year for the team and finally we have a referee who gets good games at the highest level.

He has the potential to become Norway's all-time number one.

General Discussion / Fulham v Leeds

19 mins, back-pass and no one reacted when the goalie picked up the ball. So strange.

I don't know if this video is available abroad, but if it is, have a look.

20:45 CET - Malaga (La Rosaleda)
SPAIN - NORWAY | Group A
Referee: Benoît Bastien (FRA)
Assistant Referee 1: Hicham Zakrani (FRA)
Assistant Referee 2: Aurélien Berthomieu (FRA)
Fourth Official: Thomas Leonard (FRA)
Video Assistant Referee: Benoît Millot (FRA)
Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Eric Wattellier (FRA)
UEFA Referee Observer: Miroslav Liba (CZE)
UEFA Delegate: Jack Grundie (NIR)

Very unimpressed.

Arrogant performance, felt like he was there to please the home team.
Martin Ødegaard chopped down in the box after he'd shot. A foul and a booking all day long anywhere else on the pitch.
Giving freekicks to Spain for absolutely nothing in the box a few times on set pieces.

If that's a booking... no game will ever end with 11 v 11 again

How on earth did he not give a foul against the City GK?

I just watched the penalty shoot-out between Start and Tromsø in the Norwegian cup.
The shoot-out was in front of the home fans and the away team had the first shot. They scored, then the referee blew his whitle and moved it over to the other side when some home fans threw snowballs. The away team Tromsø won.

I've never seen that before. How silly must those home fans feel now...

Finally good news for Norwegian refereeing!  Seems like Rossetti was very pleased with Eskås in his Europa League game the other week.
Svein Oddvar Moen was the last Norwegian to referee in the CL in February 2016, and now he is the fourth official.

Why did Svein Oddvar Moen fall out of favour?  I am sure he was often given big knockout champions league games.

I think it started to go downwards after the Iceland v Finland game in October 2016 when he only booked a Finnish player who grabbed his shirt and pulled him back. It was clearly a red card and he was taken off a European game later.

He never did a CL game again but he refereed some EL games the season after. He had a Conference League qualifier in July this year, his first European game for three years.

League B - Group 4
24 September 2022, 18:00 CET - Ljubljana, Stadion Stožice
SLOVENIA - NORWAY
Referee: Lawrence Visser (BEL)
Assistant Referee 1: Rien Vanyzere (BEL)
Assistant Referee 2: Thibaud Nijssen (BEL)
Fourth Official: Lothar D'hondt (BEL)
Video Assistant Referee: Bram Van Driessche (BEL)
Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Nathan Verboomen (BEL)
UEFA Referee Observer: Roberto Rosetti (ITA)
UEFA Delegate: Christian Mutschler (SUI)

I wonder what Rossetti made of his performance. Disallowed goal correct. I thought he missed clear yellow card on a Slovenian player in the first half. He frustrated both sets of players throughout the game by blowing too much, especially in the first half. I thought to myself that it was nice to watch some football in this game of free kicks, and this wasn't an ugly game at all. And he needs to get a new whistle, I could barely hear it and a couple of times I realised he had blown only when he signalled with his arm.
All in all a little frustrating to watch.

Champions League 2022/23 - Play-Offs (First Leg, I)

16  August 2022

21:00 CET - Aspmyra, Bodø
Bodø/Glimt (NOR) - Dinamo Zagreb (CRO)
Referee: Danny Makkelie (NED)
Assistant Referee 1: Hessel Steegstra (NED)
Assistant Referee 2: Jan de Vries (NED)
Fourth Official: Allard Lindhout (NED)
Video Assistant Referee: Marco Fritz (GER)
Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Mark Borsch (GER)
UEFA Referee Observer: Francesco Bianchi (SUI)
UEFA Delegate: Jaroslav Dudl (CZE)

Masterclass.

Absolutely. For me as a Norwegian, it was a pleasure to see a performance like that in Norway for a change... It's only a couple of weeks since Glimt played at home and the referee gave handball for a header 🙃

General Discussion / Re: Anthony Taylor- Sweden v Norway
« on: Sun 05 Jun 2022 22:36 »
I'm Norwegian and I was very surprised when he pointed at the spot and not the other way for diving.
The Swedes are not pleased after the game. Their manager said it was a horrible decision and and the big Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet wondered if the guys in the VAR bus was on crack!

But now I'm very happy we beat Sweden in a game that counts for the first time since 1977!

It's very frustating watching a game and you never feel the referee is fully competent to deal with cynicism, time wasting and just small things throughout it. Weak body language, looking down on the ground, not showing who's in charge. Only four minutes of added time in the second half was a joke. He should be well aware how Atletico behaves and he couldn't deal with it. A stronger referee would have dealt with all this from the beginning.

I found myself thinking back to the Euro's and the top top quality refereeing we watched there. This was not on that level unfortunately and not on the level of the best in Europe.

I had to look through the appointments for the league games beetween Burnley and Man United at Turf Moor and Old Trafford. Jon Moss always seems to get these games and I had a suspicion Mike Dean was a regular too.
For the last nine league games between the two teams, included the game this weekend, Jon Moss and Mike Dean has refereed 8 of them!

21/22:
Burnley-MU: Mike Dean
MU-Burnley: Jon Moss

20/21:
MU-Burnley: Kevin Friend
Burnley-MU: Jon Moss

19/20:
MU-Burnley: Jon Moss
Burnley-MU: Mike Dean

18/19:
MU-Burnley: Jon Moss
Burnley-MU: Jon Moss

17/18:
Burnley-MU: Mike Dean
(MU-Burnley: Martin Atkinson)

Are there any other fixtures that have had only three different referees for the last 9 league games?
