General Discussion / Re: P Bankes- Newcastle v Man Utd

Bankes has had another flawless 37mins but no way joelinton should be on pitch.
Got a yellow and a clear sarcastic clap afterwards.
For some reason Joelinton an Guimares seem to be treated pretty leniently

Burton should have had a penalty when Mavrapanos  barged their forward in the back.

Just saw the penalty shout. Not a clue how that wasn’t given.

A clear and obvious error. Isn't that what VAR is supposed to pick up on?

Terrible decision

Moyes doesn't agree nor with the second yellow! Typical and I guess under pressure from the players. I think one concern is the inconsistency bit when a certain Spurs player "stamped" on an opponent just above the ankle. No red card there. However, in this instance the decision is correct.
He'll be even more upset if he sees Joelinton raging at the referee after being carded then getting away with it.

Brobbey very lucky to avoid a second yellow.
Bankes has been very good apart from that

Bankes let the defenders kick lumps out of Brobbey in the early stages without taking any action so it was no wonder he got frustrated.

Was sure Taylor would have the tyne derby but it’s a well deserved appointment for bankes who has impressed me an awful lot the last 18months.
Good to see Brooks bacl..
Surely not long till we see tierney bsck in the middle

Get yourself onto the naughty step immediately. The TYNE derby!!!! It's on WEARSIDE  and we are only allowing them to come over from the dark side for a few hours so they can get a sun tan and some fresh air.😁
Seriously though like you I fully expected Mr Taylor to get this one. This will be a massive test for Peter Bankes. It's blood and thunder from start to finish.

Sorry but using the Guardian as a guide maybe isn't the wisest decision. Scott could have been sent off the lunging tackle on Xhaka and he may have only committed two fouls according OPTA but unfortunately they don't monitor his mouth. He was in Tim Robinson's face from the start and even his own manager knew what was coming which is why he was substituted.
Now the dark arts comment. When two players are running at pace do they really think one of them thinks ' Ooh I know this guys been booked I'll jump in front of him so he gets a second yellow '.i suppose they think  Sadiki deliberately walked into Cook's elbow 🙄
The truth is a few of the Bournemouth players spent more time giving the referee a hard time rather than getting on with the match. It was sad to see because they are normally a really entertaining team to watch but they let themselves down badly yesterday.

Cash went down as though he'd had his goolies shot off and got away scott free. It was petulant but violent conduct? The game is officially dead.

10
Any thoughts on the tackle on Brereton Diaz that injured him. Watson got the ball but I wondered if it was a booking as a bit reckless??

It was a great tackle by Hume and one of the moments of the match. When Chris Wilder doesn't complain then you know the referee has got it spot on.

11
So should De Bruyne. That should have been his second yellow.

12
The Dorgu yellow card was embarrassing.

13
It's becoming a habit. He had to give it after the Trai Hume decision on Good Friday.

14
Wells ran straight across Trai Hume and the referee fell for it. He was quick to get the red card out but he wasn't helped by being surrounded by Bristol players. They celebrated as though they'd won the league

General Discussion / Lewis Smith - Sunderland v Preston
« on: Wed 12 Mar 2025 16:21 »
Was having a pretty decent game but it all went belly up in the 80th minute. Sunderland were attacking down the left when the Preston defender Porteous went down with a ' head injury '. Lewis Smith stopped the game and next thing you know Porteous rose from the dead like Lazarus.
He didn't require any treatment on the pitch but was told to go off and by this time both teams were taking a drink. That's when the fun really started . The Preston players started dropping like flies by the touchline. Three of them, one after the other which ended in players from both teams getting involved with pushing and shoving.
It took about 5 mins to sort it out but just as the referee was about to restart the match it was pointed out to him that Preston had 12 players on the field which was followed with chants of 'You're not fit to referee' and 'You don't know what you're doing'.

The thing is Lewis Smith copped the flak but this situation was caused by total s**thousery from Preston and their manager had the nerve to blame the officials for Sunderland equalising. 🙄
