Having now watched it more than once, I will concur with the view that a second YC would have been unnecessarily harsh

Fair enough point
However, as you can score with your head, that must be a consideration 5

Fair point
However you can score with your head, so head position is relevant 6

Just to play devil's advocate for a minute
How can it have been CLEAR AND OBVIOUS when it took almost forensic levels of studying the replay(s) to confirm it one way or other We are surely heading towards re refereeing games via VAR if we are following the path of doing this, nobody wants that and that's not what it's there for. In literally hundreds of grounds without the benefit? of VAR, there wouldn't have been an eyebrow raised. Goal given, get on with it 7

If we're looking at possible but spurious reasons to disallow a goal Merino nudged United keeper under the ball for the second goal

You should really watch some of the National League Referee performances over the past decade if you're looking for worst ever performances

How many defending players were between Haaland and the Goal Line?

The only non contentious element of this imo was the Offside
Both Haaland and Thiaw were behind the GK, in fact, nobody was closer to the Goal Line than the two of them. Therefore the Offside was factually correct. As has been said the interference element is subjective and the OFR could / should have been recommended much quicker without the need for all the farting about With lines etc. 11

I would venture to suggest that had he issued a Red Card it would have been appealed and rescinded.
From a personal perspective AT was probably as disgusted as anyone but had to remain professional and deal with what he could how he could 12

EFL League 1, 2 & National League Prem / Re: Sat 3rd & Sun 4th JAN 2026« on: Sun 04 Jan 2026 11:37 »
Was a bit of a catastrophe really
The game was declared on at two different points, supporters were admitted, players warmed up. At 2.45 the turnstiles were closed and at 2.52 by my watch, the postponement was announced. I believe it was his first game at this level so the pressure must have been greater than usual so I have a degree of sympathy but, it wasn't really what anyone would have wanted. Clearly I don't know definitively what happened but I'd have thought / hoped that he may have received guidance from his ARs or other people with him which appears not to be the case 15
General Discussion / Re: Keith Hackett.........AGAIN !!!!!« on: Tue 30 Dec 2025 18:01 »
Would it be acceptable to say that during his Active days Mr Hackett could have justifiably been referred to as a "trundler"
If not then my apologies, please delete |
