1st T20I: Sri Lanka vs Pakistan (7:00pm local time)
Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium

On-Field Umpires: Chamara De Zoysa (Sri Lanka), Ravindra Kottahachchi (Sri Lanka)
TV Umpire: Raveendra Wimalasiri (Sri Lanka)
Reserve Umpire: Hemantha Boteju (Sri Lanka)
Match Referee: Ranjan Madugalle (Sri Lanka)

So, 3 new faces for the opening T20 International. It appears Prageeth Rambukwella has been appointed to the U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe/Namibia later this month, Ruchira Palliyaguruge has either retired or prioritised Bangladesh Premier League duties and Lyndon Hannibal has left the ICC International Panel, paving the way for opportunities within the Sri Lankan umpiring ranks.

Yeah, it certainly seems to be that way. I wouldn’t say there are that many outstanding candidates. Like you indicated, Tariq Rasheed seems to be the most likely option, given he was the fourth umpire for the most recent Pakistan tri-series and the ACC Men’s Premier Cup back in 2024. Otherwise, you might look at Abdul Muqeet (three PSL games) or Nasir Hussain (two PSL games), both of whom have also officiated a small number of Women’s Internationals.

Will most likely get a fair idea when the appointments are released for the Sri Lanka-Pakistan T20I series in the next few days. However, Ruchira Palliyaguruge has been appointed to the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League, so it'll be intriguing to see how it all plays out.

Surprisingly, the ICC have updated their ICC Match Official Panels, and Lyndon Hannibal has been replaced by Ravindra Kottahachchi despite the recent rumours or news around Ruchira Palliyaguruge retiring. Lyndon ends with 3 Tests (all as TV umpire), 26 ODIs (21 on-field, 5 TV umpire) and 40 T20Is (24 on-field, 16 TV umpire). He did not officiate an international match last year, with his most recent appointment coming in November 2024 (Sri Lanka vs New Zealand), which in hindsight perhaps signalled his quiet exit from the panel.

- Prageeth Rambukwella
- Raveendra Wimalasiri
- Ravindra Kottahachchi
- Ruchira Palliyaguruge

Ruchira Palliyaguruge has retired from all forms of cricket umpiring, finishing with 18 Test matches, 132 ODIs, 85 men’s T20Is, 22 Women’s ODIs, and 8 Women’s T20Is officiated at the international level. This includes standing in the ICC World Cups in 2015, 2016 and 2019, as well as the 2022 Women’s World Cup. He also stood in the final of the 2016 Asia Cup between Bangladesh and India.
