I managed to take in this match and I have to concur with m'learned friend nemesis and ex-ref. This was a performance of staggering incompetence; the word inept doesn't even come close to doing it justice. It reminded me of Topsy in his pomp; no, actually, I think this was worse than most of the stuff Topsy served up. Young looked like he was officiating at about seven or eight levels above what he could comfortably manage.

I have never seen ( or heard much ) of him before and unless his drastically improves I don't want to do so again. I really do hope neither he nor the Match Observer were satisfied with his performance because if they are, then the game of football is doomed.

All that said, knowing how the system appears to ( not ) work, Young will probably get promotion at the end of this season  !

He certainly won't be disadvantaged by being Bedfordshire FA's Chief Executive Officer !

I seem to remember he was previously Cambridgeshire RDO !

I agree by far the most inadequate performance I have seen at Portman Road over the past 17 years.

11 bookings, Ipswich 5 Wycombe 6, (should have shown Donacien of Ipswich an obvious 2nd yellow, no booking for a double jeopardy penalty against Chambers of Ipswich), two missed penalties in favour of Ipswich one clearly blatant, disallowed goal which should have stood (very strange as no flag from AR Mr Farmer but when players lined up for restart Mr Young went over to speak with AR and goal was ruled out for offside. Ball was played by a defender). According to press reports comms not working was given as an excuse), poor use (non use) of advantage, poor foul detection.  So much frustration from both benches and players. I am positive a more experienced referee, with less whistle, would have had half the bookings if that, as so many were borne out of frustration, and we would have seen a better game.

I'm sure the much maligned Mr Kettle, who had a good game at Portman Road earlier in the season, would have been a better choice.

Having said all that neither team looked like promotion hopefuls!!

Also included the deserved booking of the Wycombe keeper for persistent time wasting, but actually for a rare instance when he wasn’t!

General Discussion / Re: Andy Woolmer Ipswich v Sheffield utd
« on: Sun 23 Dec 2018 15:34 »

If there was any justice in the world, at this time of the year former postie, Andy Woolmer would be back to pounding the streets of Northampton delivering presents and cards. Not that I have any confidence in him delivering them correctly. Virtually all the presents would be taken to the big red and white house near the top of the road with nothing for the little blue house at the bottom of the road. Cards will be delivered randomly and inconsistently and any red ones will be left back in the sorting office.

Staggeringly poor performance and for the second Saturday running the feelgood factor currently in evidence at Portman Road was only marred by a short, bald man in black who I thought was struggling with the concept of even-handed refereeing. Presumably there's an unwritten rule regarding how teams at the bottom of the league are to be treated.

Having witnessed the match yesterday I just knew when I logged on there would be a post from you regarding this match. Agree with everything you say. 2 consecutive matches where the refereeing performance has been grossly incompetent.
