Interesting thing is that Srilanka in almost all games was winning the crucial tosses in the recent series (Ind Aus) as well. Batting under lights with the old ball is quite challenging.

Don't know sometimes why ICC doesn't update the umpires appointments regularly. There are several series such as Ind vs Nz, Sl vs Eng, Afg vs wi and Pak vs Aus series but no update in appointments.

3
Any updates for the match officials of Ind vs Nz and SL vs Eng odi series???
ICC still haven't updated their match officials list for a while.

In this ashes series umpire Ahsan Raza has impressed me a lot. Apart from giving weatherald out and giving leg byes during ongoing drs timer he has been excellent in his desicion making.
In terms of third umpiring, the tv umpires need to consistent with their call if they are continue to use RTS technology and ICC needs to instruct the umpires and set a standard parameter so that these controversies which happened throughout the series doesn't happen again.

Don't know what's wrong with umpire Saikat.Performed decently in the 2nd ashes test even though made some howlers in Brook's wickets.Don't know but it feels like he might be following the paths of previous elite panel umpires like Joel Wilson or S Ravi.

Sorry,I mistakenly typed disagree.Nonetheless Sam Nogaski has been superb in both the tests.

The DRS decision by Saikat demonstrated really bad communication and uncertainty. He gave absolutely no confidence to those watching.
He had taken almost 5 minutes to make that decision which indicated there is enough doubt to give the batsman out.He should have stick to the on field not out decision. But I remember former elite panel umpire Marais Erasmus once said RTS sometimes detect edges after some frames unlike ultraedgde. So in that sense he might have got it right.

Have checked few minutes ago.Saikat is officiating as TV Umpire in 3rd odi between Pak vs Sl.

9
Well it is beyond my imagination how Chris Gaffeney haven't won any ICC umpire of the year award whereas Richard Illingworth had already won it 4 times.Even Michael Gough hadn't won any ICC umpire of the year!!!

Ashes 2025 is less than a weeks time.Still haven't found any official announcements of the match officials. Can anyone clarify the match officials list?

India v South Africa Series
14/11/2025 – Test – Eden Gardens, Kolkata

Match Referee: Richard Richardson
On-field Umpires: Rod Tucker, Chris Gaffaney
TV Umpire: Richard Kettleborough
Reserve: J R Madangopal (sic)

22/11/2025 – Test – Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati

Match Referee: Richard Richardson
On-field Umpires: Rod Tucker, Richard Kettleborough
TV Umpire: Chris Gaffaney
Reserve: Rohan Pandit

These appointments take Rod Tucker to 98 tests. After the Ashes the only test matches before the English summer are 2 test matches in March and April between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Can imagine Tucker being appointed to 1 of those matches and then appointed to the 1st test between England and New Zealand at Lords for his 100th test!

Incidentally in his last test match Tucker went past Daryll Harper as the most capped Australian test umpire.
[I have a query
Can anyone tell how ICC decide who will stand both matches on field in a 2 match test series?
I thought in Ind vs Sa series Richard Kettleborough will stand on field for both matches as he will not be in Ashes and NZ vs WI series. How come Rod Tucker standing both the test on field despite already officiating Ind vs Eng Ban vs SL and Pak vs Sa series.....]
