Non Footy Appointments / Re: County Championship Cricket 2025
« on: Sun 03 Aug 2025 22:39 »
Peter Hartley is in his last year of umpiring now he's 65, and it's clear that he's slowly running down his workload towards retirement. Only doing County Championship so far this year, but only 5 games out of the 11 rounds we've had so far, 4 of which have been for Durham/Yorkshire home games, and the other being only at Trent Bridge. He seemingly stepped back from T20 this year but strangely did one at Headingley, which I don't think was planned as the PA announcer said: "please welcome your umpires Hassan Adnan and Graham Lloyd". Must have been a late change as that night Hassan Adnan was at Leicester. Hartley might do a couple of One Day Cup games alongside new and upcoming umpires, and I bet he'll have Yorkshire Durham at Headingley in late September as his swansong in front of his old home crowd.

As for our friend Ghosty, perhaps he's umpired his last game? Hasn't done one even at 2nd team level since 1st July according to Cricket Archive...

For the last round of game tomp posted on 02 May, 2025 09:07, so way before the tosses took place.

Yes the umpires are generally friendly. They are just under so much scrutiny with the live streams now. You can forgive lbw's but not blind run outs.

I've got my own Mallender stories 😂
I just posted the fixtures without the appointments at 9:07 and then as you will see at the bottom I edited the post once the appointments were available. I was actually at the Glamorgan match so it was easier for me to just quickly edit the post, rather than write all the fixtures out when I’m at the ground- saves a bit of time.

Ah understood! It's just a shame they don't announce them anymore, again for unknown betting reasons when football can still announce them.

Though it does mean every game now at Headingley I am on Mallender watch from the Long Room, judging the way the umpires are walking to the toss, looking at their head to see how much hair they've got etc. to work out whether if it's Mallender or not. He's got quite a distinct gait!

Hello, first post here!

1. How do you get the umpire news before the tosses? ECB don't announce them anymore/via a spreadsheet (I did email and they did say it was for betting purposes, which seemed stupid as the PL and EFL still announce them beforehand)

2. Everyone seems to love Mallender here  :) He has umpired a couple of men 2nd team games this year, in addition to the women's 50 over games, but the further away he is from the County Championship the better! Still can't forgive him for giving Masood run out when he had his head turned on the action v Kent at Scarborough in the 50 overs in 2023.

I'm expecting him to be in a fair share of T20's at Headingley this summer...
