With this I presume that ICC is moving on from experienced members- Kettleborough,Tucker, Reiffel, Dharmasena.
Is it the sign that at least one of them won't be there in next shuffle?

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Final - India v New Zealand
On-field Umpires: Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf
Third Umpire: Allahuddien Paleker

Um. I would say it could be otherwise also. Given the restrictions of neutral appointments and elite umpires, Gough and Wilson needed to be there I think. Also the umpires more frequently appointed for TV duties is also a sign of them falling off the rankings and possibly excluded from the elite panel in nearby future. Same happened I think with these two (though I am not sure on their numbers of being TV umpire or not getting on field duties)

This can only be known when next shake up happens in the panel

Tbh I think it is very difficult to find any logic with ICC appointments sometimes. In last years Champions Trophy, the TV umpires in the semi finals were Joel Wilson (Also TV umpire in final) and Michael Gough, a few weeks later both were removed from the elite panel!

Update: Brown does get a TV umpire role in India vs Zimbabwe match.
But I still wonder why he hasn't been given any on field duties for Super 8.

Interesting thing to note - From the emerging panel, Brown has not been given on-field duty for any of the Super 8 matches. I don't think he would be a TV umpire for any. Is it an indication that other emerging panel umpires are ahead of him?

Does anyone know why Donovan Koch umpired part of the Afghanistan vs West Indies game yesterday? He initially replaced Jayaraman Madanagopal, then later stood in for Sam Nogajski for quite a few overs in the second innings, before both of them returned to finish the match. It just seemed a bit odd.

Since it is just a warm-up match, like players umpires too do interchange as needed in order to get acquainted. Quite normal.

Am I the only one wondering how Virender Sharma has been selected for the semifinal officials’ list? There is no doubt that he is a competent umpire; however, I would appreciate some clarity on the criteria or considerations behind his appointment if anyone can provide .

He's the oldest in terms of getting appointed to the international panel from his home board. He's in international panel since 2019 and as rightly said, only one with test match experience (non replacement) apart from really being competent enough.

Third ODI between India and New-Zealand:
Match Officials remain same as that of First ODI.

So yet again, Saikat is doing off the field duties.

The reason should be quite obvious then.

8
Seems like the issues between two nations have kept Saikat for only off the field duties like TV umpire. This is probably because ODI needs two neutral appointments.
I don't find any other reason than this or him being actually physically unfit.

After a long gap, the umpires' exchange program seems to have been resumed by the BCCI and Cricket Australia.
As per the BCCI website and app, Donovan Koch from Australia will be officiating in the Ranji Trophy (India's Domestic first-class championship).

8 Nov - 11 Nov 2025
Match   Vidarbha vs Odisha
Venue   Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha
On-Field Umpires   Kuppuraj Madanagopal, Donovan Koch

16 Nov - 19 Nov 2025
Match   Punjab vs Maharashtra
Venue   PCA New Cricket Stadium
On-Field Umpires   Tapan Sharma, Donovan Koch

It's interesting to see who will travel to Australia for the Sheffield Shield matches. According to the CA website, for the first 9 matches, no appointments have been made from India. So, most probably, it will be in December for someone from BCCI to visit Australia. What I think is that someone from the current International Panel umpires from India will travel there, like Koch is going to.

Non Footy Appointments / Re: ICC Elite Panel 2025/26

All very interesting. As others note, surely a personal decision from Gough a la Taufel to spend more time with family, notwithstanding his relative lack of major finals was clearly highly rated. I always feel a bit sorry for people who appear to have been dropped for performance reasons but Wilson was clearly below par statistically and seemed to have lost some faith with players (eg. media reports re: Kuhnemann throwing report).

Did also think Wharf and Brown were first two due for promotion, one does wonder if the need to balance national representation on the panel also plays a part. Will be interesting to see if both are replaced on the Emerging Panel, if Madanagopal is already on you would think he would also be joined by Nogajski or Riaz based on the World T20

I don't think Nogajski will be added. He had a poor run in T20 WC itself. Some of the decisions were questionable. Most probably it would be Riaz if they decide to add 2.

Non Footy Appointments / Re: ICC Elite Panel 2025/26

What I think is Gough's exit is more likely a personal decision. More and more umpires now have chosen to step down from international umpiring (especially the Elite Panel) and focus more on leagues and domestic matches. Paul Wilson and Marais Erasmus stood down from international umpiring last year and are seen doing T20 leagues. I will be surprised if Gough's exit is due to performance.

Joel Wilson was long due to go.

I feel Wharf was due before Saikat joined the panel, but I think it is just that they could not onboard a fourth Englishman in the elite panel last year. I believe Wharf was in the reckoning before Brown. But yeah, Brown is also due to join in next.

I think umpires nearing 60 years or more will retire next year (probably Tucker, Illingworth and Reiffel). But yeah neither of the three are bad enough to be removed.

Also heard that Jayaraman Madanagopal from India has been added to the emerging panel. Wonder who will be the other one joining the emerging panel after the promotion of Palekar and Wharf to the elite panel.
