Disappointed to read comments from Everton referencing Tom Kirk’s inexperience at Premier League level. This is nothing more than a deflection tactic following a poor performance and result against a struggling opponent. Michael Keane is a good enough player not to have to resort to pulling an opponents hair and Jack Grealish demonstrated pure petulance and stupidity to receive two yellow cards so let’s applaud a young talent for having the courage and conviction to carry out his duties diligently and courageously.

In fairness, Moyes did say he had no defence for Grealish's actions although he wasn't happy with the Keane red card.

On the subject of Tom Kirk, his first Premier League game was Burnley v Crystal Palace at the start of December. Although hardly a difficult game to referee, I thought he did really well and ensured it wasn't difficult.

I am an admirer of Kitchen, his performance in the first game this season looked rusty, but he is a fine prospect. I can understand why Burnley may not appreciate this but if they are referring to the Preston game last season, I thought he was very good. Others clearly don't probably because Burnley didn't get what they wanted.
However, it doesn't seem to be a sensible appointment imho although referees should be able to go and referee any game regardless of history. Couldn't another appointment be found?

I knew someone must be an admirer of Kitchen but the Burnley fans are not pointing to the Preston game for the lack of appreciation but a series of games when he has given shocking performances. And, mark my words, he was not good at Preston. I assume you were there to be able to make such an assumption. Six times last season, twice now this season. It's getting ridiculous.

I don't get the hype with this referee at all.

Nice to see Kitchen on our first game!! I am 100% confident that it won’t be the last, we will probably have him as much as Burnley did!

Great to see Josh Smith out there too!

Hopefully Burnley won't see him this season. I really do not get it with this referee at all, poor every time I've seen him either refereeing Burnley or seeing him on TV. He didn't disappoint again tonight.

Much better performance from Andrew Kitchen yesterday although an easy enough game to referee. Very strange though that the fourth official didn't indicate how many additional minutes to be played at the end of the second half.

Kitchen again for Burnley - number six of the season and he's been shockingly poor in all five. Seems someone at PGMOL sees potential there but .................

Time for these wannabe SG1 refs to get their houses in order. Bell and his assistants were poor for BOTH sides today.

The current SG1 refs are safe with what we’ve got in SG2.

Pgmol need to bring some SG1 refs down to the championship for these next 6 games instead of letting them run boards or in VAR.

The officials seemed to upset Frank Lampard the most but it was a totally inconsistent and inept performance from Bell. As for the assistant missing that offside, it really is hard to believe when the forward is beyond every player including the goalkeeper.

PGMOL have a real problem with the poor quality now in SG2 from what we have witnessed this season.

It probably looks like I come on here to give my opinion on Ward or Kitchen but when you’ve had them 10 times out of 39 games it will look that way.

Kitchen with a typically poor performance again today with a lot of his decisions absolutely bewildering. I do not see how he is being spoken about promotion to SG1 before both Smith’s & Donohue as a minimum. He delays his decisions to an extent today he gave a foul 15 seconds after it was committed. If being promoted to the premier league means we get more of Andrew Kitchen, I’m happy to stay in the championship.

Interesting he hasn’t done a Leeds game yet this year, surely they are due him.

Another poor game from him. I really don't see it at all with him.

I think appalling is very unfair. In your last game he failed to give a penalty to Burnley which upset the locals, but it was a terrific decision justifying his status. And he handled the alleged racist abuse well. Furthermore, he wouldn't get Burnley a fifth time if he was deemed poor by assessors.

The penalty decision was correct although I'm not sure how he saw it from his position, but my view was that he had another absolutely shocking game as he'd done in previous Burnley games. Yes, he did handle the incident well, and Burnley publicly thanked him for that, but otherwise I can find nothing to commend him from the games he's had.

Burnley FC (First Team) v Bristol City (First Team)
Football League Championship
Referee: Kitchen, Andrew
Assistant Referee: Hudson, Shaun
Assistant Referee: Williams, Darren
Fourth Official: Speedie, Benjamin

Good grief - Burnley get Kitchen for a fifth time this season. What on earth have we done to deserve this?

I’d agree it’s excessive but it does sometimes happen. Oliver has had Man City a lot this season (about 5 times before new year) and last season in the championship, Ipswich had Josh Smith 6 times (not like that bothered me though)

I don't think Burnley fans would mind if he was OK but he's been appalling in those games.

Really not sure how Gavin Ward can be anywhere near the Championship. He was poor tonight again

He was beyond poor but that's four times he's refereed Burnley now this season and he's been shockingly poor in all four of them. Four with Ward and four with the also poor Andrew Kitchen is difficult to accept.
