Interesting appointment for Salisbury considering his last game was January 24th.

Good overall by Meler but that penalty will clearly be a talking point. The angle from in front of the players shows slight contact that meant VAR wasn't going to get involved but probably would have been best to wave play on.

Alberola Rojas who was recently promoted to Cat 1 looks a good future Spanish elite list official. I agree that Hernandez is probably the better of the 3 currently on the elite list but it seems that Sanchez will go to the world cup (although his mistake in Atalanta/Dortmund wouldn't have helped him)

Montero as well is pretty decent

Yeah he's maybe been unlucky not to have gotten many UEFA games but he won't get promoted due to age.

Not entirely sure Bankes is a late replacement considering last year Brooks worked with his assistants for only 1 game before the final also. But If Gillett doesn't have a PL game next week then that would likely mean he was the original choice and got injured. Also seems slightly unusual to have a reserve ar who has already done the final?

General Discussion / Re: Current Injured Officials
« on: Mon 09 Mar 2026 20:14 »
From the Premier League alone the out of action officials are as follows:

John Brooks
Robert Jones
Simon Hooper
Tony Harrington
Michael Salisbury
Paul Tierney
Darren Bond
Dan Robathan
Sian Massey-Ellis
Natalie Aspinall (currently returning)
Nick Hopton
Wade Smith (?)

Quite the crisis, so id expect to see Kirk in this weeks appointments considering he is nowhere to be seen the rest.

Smith isn't injured (has a champ game tomorrow) maybe Holmes could be as he was replaced on Wolves vs Liverpool

Good VAR intervention to give that penalty even if it upset the home crowd. Not the best debut for Karaivanov missing the offside....

Barrott unlucky today in that there were 2 long checks that went against the home side that he had no involvement in. Maybe he could have spotted the handball on-field but even with the replays it's very hard to tell.

Madley had Hopton as his AR1 before Hopton got injured. Wood is often with Barrott as his AR1

I hope that’s not an injury setback for Paul Tierney. I did raise my concerns about him having a 3 game week very quickly after building up his fitness over a long period so hopefully he’s not out for long.

But again though, is it wise to give Thomas Bramall Fulham v Spurs on Sunday and then Wolves v Liverpool on Tuesday? I understand numbers are a bit short but it’s similar to Kavanagh’s situation at the start of the year.

Tierney was FO at Brentford vs Brighton so couldn't have been injured then

Brooks, Harrington, Salisbury, Jones and Brooks all injured it seems and no games for Taylor/Oliver. Bit of a strange double game week when it comes to appointments. 8 with double appointments...

Good to see Smith back in the PL. Not that surprising to see Kirk also especially with Hooper, Harrington and Salisbury injured and Kavanagh out of the running to have a game this weekend.

General Discussion / Re: C KAVANAGH - Villa v Newcastle (FA)

Kavanagh was quite far away from the Digne challange so could have maybe got some help from Beswick but between them they got that wrong in my opinion. Correct RC for Bizot and 1st Villa goal being given was clearly a mistake by Greenhalgh.

Sublime… nothing more, nothing less..

He will be SG1 next season…. Without doubt.

Will be interesting to see if him and the others in the "Supplementary group" actually get official promotions in the future since that group is described as officials serving in both the EFL and PL.

Can't really blame Pawson for giving the goal live but think Brooks made the right decision by sending him to the screen. On the mic'd up shows Brooks always sounds one of the better VAR's but I doubt he'll be doing European games anytime soon considering his on-field career.
