Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Chesterfield FC (First Team) Football League 2 Referee: Rock, David Assistant Referee: Forder-Hay, Jack Assistant Referee: Smith, Daniel Fourth Official: Henry, Scott
A bit of a mixed bag from David Rock. For the first 35 minutes or so, he was fine but, after correctly awarding a penalty to Crewe from which they scored, David seemed to lose the plot, and the boos directed towards him at half time were from both sides of the stadium. Fortunately, the second half was better and it was good to see him cracking down on dissent with yellow cards. Rather 'old-school' in looks and actions, he nevertheless is as fit as some of the younger ones I've seen at Gresty Road and he did try and explain some of his decisions, which we don't always see from the younger and more robotic referees. When David awarded the penalty to Crewe, for me it finally buried the ghosts of Cambridge in 2018 when his decision to penalise Ng for a 'foul' in the penalty area was certainly one of the most shocking I've seen at the Alex, and at the same end as well. Overall, I think David and team can feel satisfied with their performance this afternoon, and what a game, well done all three teams. [/quote
A view from the other side of the pitch.
I had my doubts about Mr Rocks decision making after 2 seconds. From the kick off the Chesterfield cf made a run forward to go for the 2nd ball the Crewe centre half ran some 10 yards and deliberately blocked him off (ball 50 yards away ) when the Cfld player regained his balance his shirt was grabbed on wrestling free Mr Rock totally ignored the first 2 offences ang gave a free kick to Crewe.
Mr Rocks achillies heel appeared to be not recognising 'the shove in the back'. Crewe used this tactic on a number of occasions (had they studied Mr Rocks weaknesses) none more so than Crewes first 2 goals. CFC were in possession until succumbing to the push in the back routine. These being clearly visible on the highlights. The first may be described as soft, but still a foul the 2nd a shocking game changing decision by Mr Rock.
Great game and fair result though poor decisions notwithstanding

Surprisingly no response on my comments above, from the Crewe correspondents regarding Mr Rocks performance. The general consensus this side of the hills is he succumbed to Crewes very professional sh..housery a level above the normal Bromley/Salford standards by sussing out and playing on the refs weaknesses. He got 2 major game changing decisions wrong leading to goals clearly shown on the highlights. How many times should Connelly have been cautioned in the first 5 minutes. Perhaps Mr Rock has gone someway to appeasing his alleged errors v Cambridge.
As everyone is on this forum, you are entitled to your opinion as to what you thought of the referees performance. However, I’m not sure why you had to give a subtle dig at our Crewe correspondents, Acme and Ryan who usually give fair and accurate reports.
You gave your opinion on his performance but ask why no one responded to your comments. You never asked the Crewe correspondents to give a response. I’m sure they read your reply and understood it was your opinion as to which you are allowed. That’s all there should’ve been to it really.
Apologies for seemingly breaking etiquette. I posted facts that contradicted "the Crewe correspondents" opinion that Mr Rock and his team had had a good game. I'm not called "subtle" very often, thanks.

Here’s a response then. First incident you pointed out I didn’t see as I was getting a drink so can’t comment.
First Crewe goal looks like a foul and therefore a pen. Camera angle doesn’t help.
Second Crewe goal - absolutely nothing wrong with it.
We’re all entitled to our own opinions, and I stand by my thoughts of agreeing with Acme that Mr Rock had a good performance on the whole.
Well. watch the highlights on YouTube. For the first goal go back to when the Crewe player burst into the box and got the first, well saved shot away. He gained possession by pushing Dunkley of the ball, clear foul, it may in modern parlance be classed as soft, but a foul and a game changing decision. The second goal, Berry running at the Crewe defense causing problems, clear push. Cfld players expect the free kick and are caught out of position, result another vital game changing decision. These arent opinions its there for all to see

I just want to put this out there as I thought everyone knew this but obviously not. If you have a 4O at any level of football, it is the responsibility of the 40 to calculate added times, not the Referee. If he/she tells the Referee, so so amount was lost in 45 minutes of football, the Referee goes along with it.
And on whose directive do they do this calculation? Who decides what situation warrents added time? Do they not discuss it over the comms? At the start of last season Who decided to play the correct time, eg. 6 and then possibly double figures at 90 and why did it suddenly stop with no public notification? Sorry alot of questions but putting the blame on the 4th is unfair.

Colchester United FC (First Team) v Chesterfield FC (First Team) Football League 2 Referee: Durkin, James Assistant Referee: Maskell, Garry Assistant Referee: Howick, Kevin Fourth Official: Lister-Flynn, Paul
A good night for James and team yesterday on the most part. An uneventful first half and a fairly quiet second half, he ticked the game along nicely, with little needed intervention. Two yellows, one for dissent and one for a mistimed tackle. I’m not sure if it reflected the manner of the game but his whistle was very quiet! There were a couple of fouls/no fouls that I think went Colchester’s way, but nothing that was offensive. His timekeeping, which I think has been poor before, was better, with 2 and 6 minutes added on (I expected 3 and 7 so close enough).
Then a late red card to end the game which i’m not sure about. From my view in the stands, it didn’t look any worse than a yellow and I definitely didn’t expect a red card, but I think James thinks he was high and possible studs showing. TV angles are inconclusive, so i’ll have to trust James saw that one right, but Chesterfield may not be so happy.
Can't comment due to circumstances I was restricted to the radio last night. But whenever we have Me Durkin we never seem to get the "rub of the green". However listening to the commentary, is green the appropriate colour?

Wasn’t a bad performance from Scott Tallis and team yesterday at Chesterfield v Crewe. Chesterfield fans aren’t happy at AR1 for a potential offside on our 3rd goal. You can’t tell from camera position. However, 9 mins were added in the second half. Why??? 1 injury, 1 goal, and a bunch of subs. I have absolutely no idea why there was 9. I said 6 and that was at a push. Luckily, it didn’t hurt Crewe!
Disagree. His game management was poor, the Crewe keeper extracted the urine un checked for the whole game after Crewe's first. Adding 3 minutes at H/T was pathetic each goal celebration took 2+ minutes and then you have the keepers antics. We guessed overhaul the keeper was in possession of the ball for over 10 minutes.
A deserved victory but credibility diminished by taking advantage of Mr Taliis's poor game management.
Could I have your view on the back pass law, mine appears to differ to MrTalli's.
I don’t remember the back pass as such, but I do remember when it happened. The goal celebrations weren’t 2+ mins. I recorded the first goal, to when we celebrated and then kicked off. It was 1 min 10 seconds. X2 = 2mins 20 so 3 mins would be fair. From a Crewe pov, he was fine but I understand why Chesterfield would feel aggrieved, especially with our goal keeper. Although, I don’t think he was that bad and I’ve certainly seen worse (Carlisle, and Crewe Alex made a Tik tok about it). Another good win for Crewe and I hope this continues today. Fair play to Chesterfield for 8000 fans, very impressive for league two and for a side in the bottom half of the table.
I realise back passes are rare and perhaps, as mentioned somewhere else not liked by refs because managing the resultant free kick is hassle. But for you to miss 2 (1poor by the defender the other I'm not sure what the keeper was thinking) both at your end with the crowd showing their anger and players looking stunned is strange. Credit to the keeper on these occasions he actually moved the ball very quickly trying to catch out CFC playersniw stunned and on the back foot. On the 3 minutes added you don't mention the leg amputation when Maddon was rightly cautioned. You also fail to mention the inordinate amount of time the keeper took frustrating everyone when taking goal kicks it was plain to see, but Tallis did nothing, poor game management. So in response to your opening statement, "it was" doesn't read the game. It is a worry that folk appear to becoming to accept sh..housery tactics as the norm

Simple solution add the correct time on at the end of each half. It worked well at the start of last season following the previous summers tournament. The changes to and then reverting back to "guessing what time to add' are an admission that's something is wrong.
A team "hanging on "for dear life using sh..housery tactics wouldn't be so keen to do so if an adrenaline boosting (to the opposition) knowing 10+was to be added.
I hate spending 20+ quid to watch a keeper p..about
