I've been subjected to this "expert" when in a friend's car coming home from matches. It's frankly astonishing that such an ill-informed individual is given airtime on a national radio station. It's no wonder officials at grassroots get so much abuse when people like him are allowed to spout their prejudices.
I don't remember him as a player at all. Presumably a journeyman within the M25?
Sadly the media aren’t bothered about how informed he is, only about how much clickbait he can produce.

Didn’t expect to see Darren England on the Merseyside derby, certainly given last years controversies at both grounds but best of luck to him.
Peter Bankes picking up another game between two big teams.
Happy to see Harrington in the middle.
Attwell at the Emirates. Isn’t that Attwell’s first Arsenal game for a while. I seem to remember posters on here saying he doesn’t do Arsenal very often.
Its his first Arsenal game, since November 2023, When he did Newcastle V Arsenal.

Excellent performance from Mr Zwayer and team incl var tonight.
I think Mr Taylor and his team along with Mr Oliver and his team will have a bigger smile on their faces this evening probably more so the former. Think there is a fair possibility for a German to get the final, Mr Siebert who had a good last 16 outing at Villa Park v Club Brugge. Nyberg is a good outside bet along with Eskas, Kruzliak and Scharer. Think Kovacs will be in line for next seasons final.
I wouldn’t have thought eskas he isn’t even elite is he?
Kovacks is favourite but I would love to see Taylor before he comes off the list. Nyberg or scharer could get Europa/conference or maybe Siebert.
He is on the elite list yes. Highly doubt he'll be appointed though

Some interesting appointments, Would Imagine uefa are saving the experienced names for the return legs, Think the likes of Nyberg/Eskas are possible for Wednesdays Games.

"The referee’s call of yellow card for a reckless foul by Tarkowski was checked by the VAR, with contact on the follow through after Tarkowski had played the ball deemed to be reckless".
The statement on premier league match centre for anyone interested. Very worrying if you ask me.

There's a real issue with SFP detection at the moment.

On more than one occasion it has been suggested that Sam Barrott was far too inexperienced or not good enough for some high profile match and he has delivered a very good performance which has been rightly praised. If he performs well in the Merseyside derby I hope those who criticised his appointment will have the grace to join in the general approbation; if he performs less well there will be no shortage of brickbats and hands to throw them.
The only reservation one might have about Sam Barrott is that he has yet to be tested, at this level, in an extremely challenging match. Now, one might reasonably say that is at least in part due to how he controls proceedings, but, I would say having not issued a single red card this season might indicate some level of fortune too in the difficulty of games he has officiated.
However, we can only know if he can survive in ‘the cauldron’ of an extremely challenging match if he is given the chance to officiate it.
Personally, my bet would be that whatever happens, he will be up to the task.
He Issued the cunha red card the other week.

Barrott on Liv v Ever when Oliver failed to control it …. Jesus … thought this game was an easy one to call Brooks or Kav on it IMO brooks or Kav would have been a much better selection.
Good game for Gillett !
Brooks just reffed liverpool in his last game.

While I don’t 100% disagree with you about Sam Barrott’s appointment I’d like to point out two things.
With greatest respect to Oliver, he was in a bit of a rough patch in that time. Lots of talk about him and the spotlight was shining brightly on him. His performance wasn’t the best in that game which led to some of the incidents at the end. But any referee would have struggled in that game in that atmosphere at Goodison Park.
From watching Merseyside derbies before, I would argue that the one at Anfield is arguably the easier one to officiate because normally Liverpool are so dominant.
But the bottom line is Sam Barrott is a more than capable referee to oversee this fixture with the minimum amount of controversy and I wish him the best.
Less hostile atmosphere as well.

Poor dull game and I’m an Arsenal fan.
And let’s not get carried away it was the standard expected from Taylor, not much to do, but did as required. I for one just see this “new” Taylor as one on the decline, and I would hazard a guess after what he has been through last few years if we might not see him on the PL circuit much longer, maybe he is loosing interest and time for him to make room for fresh blood
Taylors been one of our best refs this season. Certianly not time for him to step down yet imo. At least keep him around so he can help guide the next generation of FIFA Refs. Plus I'd imagine he'll wanna make the world cup next year, UEFA Still rate him highly, so I'd imagine there's always a chance he's in the running for the CL Final.

An accomplished performance this afternoon. Always felt he had control and a clean sheet added to this.
Can’t really think of anything he got wrong and stayed in the background.
Can we have officials in yellow every week please!
Especially in the dorset region.

I only saw the first half but considering I have seen Bell on 3/4 occasions and was impressed, I was totally underwhelmed on Saturday, he allowed Joe Allan to make 3/4 tackles breaking up promising attacks with no card, Callum chambers put in a really late cynical one on a Swansea player with no card, just felt the game seemed too big to Bell, and maybe we need only strong SG1 on those games in future, like Oliver Taylor Gillett ! Correct red for Riza at the end
Thats not entirely practical though, what would be the point of SG2 even existing if your just gonna use the same 4 refs for big games. Surely if your at that level, you should be considered good enough to handle that kind of game. Your not gonna have other refs develop properly either, as they won’t be given the opportunity too.

I’ve noticed my constructive original post about Rubeyn Ricardo has been removed.
Are we not allowed an opinion?
I was simply trying to say that as a Charlton Athletic fan an FA Cup 3rd Round games is huge to us.
We don’t want the ref who is being pushed too quickly. We want an established SG2 strong ref like Dean Whitestone or Bobby Marley! Maybe even Ollie Yates or Paul Howard!!
your more than welcome to express your opinion, but that is not why your post was removed. Saying that charlton were probably gonna lose to a dodgy referee decision isn’t constructive, and is going doen the route of questoning integrity. Which we deal with firmly on here for various reasons. As I say we have no qualms with you debating the merits of an appointment, but please avoid that kinda chat in future.
