General Discussion / Re: Rob Jones: Brighton v Notts Forest

A good performance from Rob with correct penalty and red card.

As for the benches, if a referee with the experience of AT thinks they've overstepped the mark then I'll go along with that!

Premier League football at its best...and worst

An enthralling game with too many incidents to dissect individually.

I don't believe Mr Oliver got every decision correct (who does) - but I think he got the big ones correct. Let's put the question back to the players.

"Why did you do that?"

For what its worth, I feel very few referees in world football could have kept that match under control...thankfully our best referee is one of them

I am also confused on whether it’s a penalty. I can make an easy explanation for both penalty or no penalty…depending on your personal preference.

As a long time reader, it’s no surprise to me that Phill believes it to be a penalty, based on the referee name maybe??

For what it’s worth, in my opinion, Michael Oliver was just ok today. Certainly nowhere near his best, too many small things wrong and a feeling that he wasn’t quite at his level. My opinion is that he clearly the best referee in this country (by a long way) but today he wasn’t his best.

But if that’s not his best, then god help us poor amateurs trying to get anywhere near his level of quality

I have two views on this.

From the depths of my memory, I thought the process was that the VAR had to recommend a review if he/she felt it was a penalty. But then also show any potential fouls before this to allow the referee to decide.

If this is correct, then it's a very good review from VAR.

If this isn't correct, then its a very poor review from VAR

Hopefully PGMOL can explain, or it can feature on the Mic'd up programme.

Absolutely clear 2nd YC to Fernandez missed. Only one reason Brooks doesn't give that!

He has had a lot of good games this season, when also not having a lot of big decisions to make. He will learn to make the big decisions in the big games if he wants to get to the very top

Two poor decisions. One in the VAR area and another with the referee changing his mind.
