Very true!
The young lad whose father is an observer was impressive in the game he did. I think that might have been in the EL as opposed to a NT game but he looked decent. Can't remember his name though!

I think that you mean Kirill Levnikov. He did Ujpest - Sevilla last summer and later on he did the Ludogorets - Zurich match on EL GS.

That's him. The Lilák game v Sevilla, he was very good. It was an easy game in many ways to referee but I was impressed with him. I didn't even cuss him once which is a major feat when I there watching Lilák!!!

Portugese ref for England then which means alot of whistle and cheap free kicks. Should suit us with our dead ball situations.

Big game for Manzano in Holland, and Vincic in for a chilly night in the bowels of far Eastern Europe.

A Russian ref for Slovakia v Hungary - that will be interesting given the recentish history between the 3 nations!
Well he was better than Karasev but that's not really much of a compliment. I'd not be happy to see his name on another of our games.
-
Ivan Bebek seemed to be doing ok in the NI game from what I saw. I had the game on but was really watching Slovakia v Hungary and was only glancing at the NI game on & off. He's got some great facial expressions & there was one occasion where he gave a group of players a bit of a talking too, which I thought was good man management. Can't say with any accuracy though what his overall performance was like but the bits I saw he was doing ok & no probs.

For us, a good game for Kulbakov in Montenegro.

For us, a good game for Kulbakov in Montenegro.
I can't tell if Kovacs has any realistic chances for promotion to the Elite. But he is trusted by the committee with an interesting match. I guess that Kyros Vassaras may have played a part on it.
Kulbakov should be considered an Elite referee. His appointments and performances those last months have been more than good. Final test perhaps?
-
Plenty of Hungarian observers around these days! Piller seems to be a regular observer in the CL and EL but I'm not familiar with Szekely.
-
Plenty of Hungarian observers around these days! Piller seems to be a regular observer in the CL and EL but I'm not familiar with Szekely.
52yr old. Retired 09/10 I think. Was an AR not referee. His International exploits include World Cup 2002 In Japan/South Korea, FIFA Confederations Cup in 2001, same place, Olympic games in 2000, U21 Euros in 2000 all of which he was the only representative from Hungary. In 01/02 he had a couple of AR appointments in the CLQual (1) & CL(2) including as AR1 to Kyros Vassaras, but not with a Hungarian team of match officials, several more appointments the following season but again not with Hungarian officials - he was in Hugh Dallas's team twice & Graham Polls team. 2004 he appeared with a Hungarian team in a CL qual - Janos Megyebiro was ref & Tibor Vámos, who later went onto line for one Mr Kassai! He had 3 games in the EL Qual 1 in 97/98 with Sándor Piller as ref, piller retired the following year I do believe, 1 in 00/01 with Ferenc Bede & 1 with a Romanian referee. He also did an International friendly with Bede, who did at most 10-15 matches across several seasons. His only other international appointment was in the intertoto cup in 05/06 with Szabolcs Saskoy as ref. Hungary were not blessed in the early years of Puhl's reign (2000-onwards) in terms of International match officials!!! Thank goodness for Károly Palotai or Kassai would never have made the International list!!!

Soares Dias for us at Wembley, and Dallas observing too. A chance to make an impression in front of an important committee member and second in charge.
Fairly routine for Soares Dias last night. He clearly identified Bedenerek as the offender for the penalty and a card too, but it looked like a sandwich so a tad unfortunate to be the only party sanctioned.
Other than that, had hardly anything else to do all evening. However a few close offside calls for both ARs which were very borderline.

Thura Win of England - I'd never heard of her before but she is shown as on FA womens committees (Google). Is it usual for there to be female UEFA delegates for these games? Just interested.
Big guns out at Norway and Bosnia, probably justified in view of the opposition in each case.
-
Thura Win is male, who has always been quite high profile in the Sussex, Hampshire, Surrey area.
-
A big hitter for the Scandinavian Derby is sensible, good game for Gozubuyuk in Ireland and Dallas jnr in Malta.
-
Important observers for Gözübüyük, Skomina, Dallas and Levnikov.
-
Important observers for Gözübüyük, Skomina, Dallas and Levnikov.
Who do you think is in prime position to take over Kuipers crown. Gözübüyük or Makkelie?
-
Makkelie, definitely. Gözübüyük is still only in First Group and needs time to develop. He had some doubtful performances the last 2 years and seems to struggle a bit.
Makkelie seems to be in pole position because he is in the Elite group but also his performances have been quite good.

Should Sterling of been punished for his celebration in the montenegro game? Possibly inciting the crowd?? RED CARD?
-
Should Sterling of been punished for his celebration in the montenegro game? Possibly inciting the crowd?? RED CARD?
Inciting a crowd that had spent the whole game racially abusing him? Good one.
-
LAW 12 states an inflamatory gesture likely to encite the crowd should be treated as offensive insulting or abusive language and or gestures.
Im not condoning the racism at all and its disgraceful but surely the referee must follow the laws of the game
(If they have to caution a player for removing his shirt to show an undershirt on with a tribute to someone who has died then this law should also of been followed)
Maybe an assessor could explain.
EITHER WAY RACISM IS DISGUSTING

Maybe an assessor could explain.
EITHER WAY RACISM IS DISGUSTING
Sounds to me like youre trying to make an issue out of something that doesnt really need it.
Edited to fix the quote thingamajigga, bmb.

Well i would of sent sterling off for his celebration.
-
Why did sterling and others not report the abuse to the officials so the referee could get the tannoy/pa system to send out a message??
And if they did report it why was no action taken?
Sterling in particular brings a lot of attention to himself but its high time uefa fifa fa and others start imposing fines in the millions, double digit points deductions and competition expulsions as it has got too much now!
-
Should Sterling of been punished for his celebration in the montenegro game? Possibly inciting the crowd?? RED CARD?
I expected a comment like this, from one of the usual card-hungry suspects much earlier than this!!
-
Well i would of sent sterling off for his celebration.
He hardly scaled the fence and did the Macarena in front of the home fans!
-
Makkelie, definitely. Gözübüyük is still only in First Group and needs time to develop. He had some doubtful performances the last 2 years and seems to struggle a bit.
Makkelie seems to be in pole position because he is in the Elite group but also his performances have been quite good.
Thought he was generally good last night Edy, imo he missed one maybe even two YC one after an excellent advantage after a foul by a Georgian player and the other being for what looked a reckless tackle to me by McLean (surprise surprise!!).
Other than that thought he fell for a few very soft free kicks for Georgia and let a few too many holding offences go, had good authority and rapport with players, very good use of advantage and assistants seemed very sharp. 8.3 level performance for me watching in the stadium and not having seen any replays, anyone else watch the game?
-
Dont really answer my question though.
-
If Sterling had given the finger to the crowd then I would agree. I took his cupped ears to mean that I have heard your racist chanting and my response to it is to score goals. No red card for me.

I shall say this whilst Hungary are 1-0 up... I hope we never see this guy on a Hungary game again. He's not having a good game, foul detection is random at best. Completely missed a dreadful tackle on Kleinheisler, seeing how his ankle bent on the replay, he's lucky to still be walking. Not a clue what is an isn't a foul today. He played an advantage for Azerbaijan after a Hungary foul - Hungary were in possession as a direct result of the foul and then booked an Azerbaijan player for retaliating - fair enough to a degree but if he had given the foul by Hungary as he should have it would never have happened. The way he spoke to Szoboszlai was appalling and unprofessional, he was literally shouting in his face, Szoboszlai just stood there looking stunned! Not even sure as to why he was in his face anyway, game was stopped for treatment after a foul by a Hungarian player, not Szoboszlai who was stood about 30 feet away and he went over to him & starting shouting in his face - very random & extremely unprofessional. He's wearing jewelry out on the pitch as well, again unprofessional.
Dreadful 1st half showing.

Is this the same Kevin Blom that gave a dodgy penalty against Scotland (was it a play off game) cant remember. Hes utterly dreadful. Seems nothing has changed! Hes had a lengthy spell out and hasnt reffed a eredivisie game since January!

Explains why he couldn't keep up with play then! He wasn't as dreadful 2nd half but was still dreadful! Waiting for the written match reports to all come out to see I can work out why he sent our manager off, although as I was watching it with the press guys who will be writing them I'm not sure I will get an answer - we were all scratching our heads about it at the time!
We won 3-1 so certainly not sour grapes!

I think it was a qualifying game against the Czech Republic, he denied us a stonewall penalty at one end when we were 2-1 up and then sauntered down the other end and gave them one. I'd hoped he was no longer refereeing, utterly utterly hopeless.
See Kavanagh is 4th official for Clancy, surely a bit unusual?

Trust me whatever he was doing on that pitch last night was not refereeing, not sure what it was, making up the numbers maybe but under the trades description act it could certainly not be called refereeing!! I'd rather have had Hategan or Karasev and I think my feelings on those 2 are very well known! The fact he stood there shouting right in the face of an 18yr old kid for no apparent reason was just utterly disgusting. Szoboszlai was just standing there doing nothing about 30 feet away from a player having treatment, he was not the player who had committed the foul and was nowhere near the player on the floor or the ref. Now obviously I don't know if Szoboszlai said anything to him but given the distance between them he'd have had to have shouted it and he didn't appear to be shouting and he wasn't even facing the incident, Blom just ran towards him shouting and was right in his face shouting. I have emailed the MLSz and said that I hope they will be putting in a formal complaint regarding his conduct.

Siebert with an important observer too... perhaps a sign of starting to look beyond Brych in the coming years?

I don't know why they focus on Siebert more than on Stieler. The former is far, far from complete referee...

Huge match for Soares Dias. Definitely a test for him.
Kasarev under Fandel's eye. I wonder what this appointment means. Also a test for Sidiropoulos.
Siebert with an important observer too... perhaps a sign of starting to look beyond Brych in the coming years?
I don't know why they focus on Siebert more than on Stieler. The former is far, far from complete referee...
Siebert is younger, though. He is 35 and Stieler is 38. He has more years to develop.
-
Peljto is a new name to me... with an important observer watching. Any info on him?
-
Peljto is a new name to me... with an important observer watching. Any info on him?
I watched him this summer on the UEFA U19 Championship. A very good referee. He is not afraid to use cautions if they are needed on the match. He is not fussy at all and mostly stays in the background and let the teams play football.
I am certain that we will see him in CL quickly and in a couple of years on the Elite Group.
-
Peljto is a new name to me... with an important observer watching. Any info on him?
Extremely talented, future elite if you ask me. However, nowadays UEFA strongly prefer the referees who operate with VAR in their domestic leagues.

My only complaint with the ref so far is that he failed to ensure that both teams were out on the pitch for the start of the game. Think Hungary have arrived to the game late because they've certainly not been out on the pitch at all in the first half! Huge test of mental strength on mental health awareness day! watching this, well whatever you call it! Certainly not a contest, that takes 2 teams to turn up & play!!! ::)

Slightly less abject 2nd half display by Hungary but fully deserving of the 3-0 drubbing.
Daniele Orsato did nothing wrong - well he wore yellow, but that was it in terms of error. He didn't have too much to do in fairness, only 2 real big calls to make and he got them both spot on. Penalty & red against Hungary. The red was a YYR as opposed to a straight red & highlighted player stupidity at its fullest! Kleinheisler was an absolute idiot. Went steaming in for the 1st yellow & earlyish in the 2nd half went steaming in again, this time in the penalty area. Big but easy calls for the ref. Thankfully Gulácsi saved the penalty but in view of 2 of the goals he gave away in the 1st half he needed to redeem himself. Anyone feeling like they need a laugh, just watch the 1st half of that game & the giftwrapped, complete with bows & ribbons goals gifted by Hungary to Croatia. Happy with all the yellows given & don't feel he missed any, for either team. Played a couple of lovely advantages for Croatia - didn't get the chance to do the same for Hungary as attacking wasn't on the agenda for us tonight, nor was defending or goalkeeping come to think of it but hey ho! No complaints with his performance at all.
Don't tell Edy but I am a little bit in love with Lorenzo Manganelli right now. He was Hungary's most effective defender 2nd half, thank the lord of football for Law 11!

Best of luck to Craig, William and Michael and hope you and your teams have good games
Pleased that the vastly experienced Skomina has the England game in the Czech Republic as I think this is a game that will require a firm hand in charge.
For what it is worth, I thought that Skomina had a good game in Prague, in a match which was probably not as contentious (on and off the pitch) as it could have been. I particularly liked his practical demonstration of a foul charge and his friendly push to get a substituted Czech player off the field a bit quicker towards the end, although I'm not sure the authorities would have seen it in the same way. Pity that England couldn't have performed as well :(

Correct decision imo for the Norway pen in the last minute - dont know what the Spanish players were on about!
-
Correct decision imo for the Norway pen in the last minute - dont know what the Spanish players were on about!
I agree - here are the highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axzsDU9sUpY
The sort of challenge goalkeepers sometimes get away with but correct to penalise it I think.
-
Cannot argue with that
The pink socks however! How many years has the game been played with teams wearing black or dark socks with no issues? Yet domestically referees wear same colour shirt as a goalkeeper

Feel very sorry for Mr Higler. He was absolutely superb for 90+2 mins & heading for an 8.4. In 90+2 Azerbaijan equalised but he ruled it out for handball, it wasn't, it was his chest/stomach area. I can understand why from his angle why he thought that it had hit the arm, including from the players own arm movement, but it was essentially on his blindside & it was the camera view from behind the goal that showed clearly that it wasn't a HB at all & it had not touched his arm at all. He needed either an AAR there or VAR - either would have helped him out. Shame for him, Azerbaijan will rightly feel aggrieved, whilst Hungary will feel extremely lucky to be on the receiving end in their favour for a change.
Up until that point he had refereed very well. Smile on his face, great rapport with both sets of players and fair and consistent. Such a shame that a decent performance was 'ruined' at the end with an error that he on his own had no chance of calling right. If they are not going to use VAR in these games then they must have AARs. Very unfair for him now to only get a 7.9.
The fan in me is however grateful that he did call it wrong! It leaves Hungary 2nd in the table and in with a chance of qualifying especially if Croatia beat Wales tonight!
-
Switched over late in the Scotland game this afternoon, I think that it was already 5-0, it must have been very close to being abandoned with that amount of surface water that kept stopping the ball? What do others think?
-
Undoubtedly it should have been abandoned at half time. Ridiculously I was sitting hoping Declan Gallagher didn't get on as it looked like an injury waiting to happen. Normally I'd champion any Motherwell player to get on.
Also the free kick in the lead up to the 6th goal was hilarious. Ref didn't give a clear one in the centre circle and the ball ran through to the keeper who picked it up outside the area and that was the free kick that was given and inevitably we scored.
-
Thought Kuipers was poor last night. Despite some correct carding there was one challenge when Wales were breaking which was completely deliberate and miles from the ball which wasnt carded.
I would expect better from one of the top elite UEFA officials.
-
A dreadful pitch for the Switzerland v Eire game... more like a muddy woodland park than a football surface.

I think that Taylor almost certainly goes to Euros unless he makes a particularly bad mistake, etc - only question in my mind really is if Oliver goes as well or if it's just Taylor.
-
Risky as Vad has not done a game even domestically since 3rd August! I'd have thought it wiser to check he is fully match fit in a domestic game first. He's a very fit guy normally though, he obviously spends time in the gym working out etc. but still seems a risk to me to test him out in an International game when he has been out injured for 3 months. Nice to see our top referee out as well, he'll not be sat in front of the press box at the new International stadium opener then!
-
Currently 26 UEFA Elite referees, I cannot see how more than 2 from each country will be selected so that trims 2 Germans and 1 Spaniard. There are a couple for whom it is too early Bastien for one. Plus there may be a couple of the older hands who will retire or shown to be past their best.
I think it will be a minimum of 18 refs appointed so I believe both Taylor and Oliver will get games
-

Certainly about two years ago Taylor was regarded as the best English referee when it came to both domestic and international appointments. However, what I hear emanating from parts of the FA is this. Both are regarded as excellent referees and most worthy of appointments to domestic and international competition matches, however Oliver is now shading it over Taylor and establishing himself as the number 1, the postion occupied by Clattenburg, Webb, Poll, Courtney and the great late Jack Taylor OBE, in years past
-
And my opinion, for what it's worth, is that both Taylor and Oliver will go to the Euros.

Important observer for Marciniak. Not sure Wales will be thrilled with the erratic Aytekin.
-
Oliver's game is 2nd v 3rd in the group as things stand I believe. Austria need only a point to definitely qualify and N Macedonia with a remote chance of the play-offs if I understand it properly.
What is the significance, if any, of finishing 1st or 2nd in a group?
-

I hadn't realised Mr Kapitanis was such an important Observer. However, Michael Oliver has an extremely important and significant Observer.

And my opinion, for what it's worth, is that both Taylor and Oliver will go to the Euros.
Wasn't there a situation with FIFA for the last WC when it was alleged FIFA (Collina?) wanted Clattenburg and the FA put Atkinson's name forward. In the end, both went.
It does seem that UEFA favour Taylor based on recent appointments, but that Oliver has had some backing from FIFA with for example appointments in the U17 and U20 tournaments - including a Final and Semi-Final I recall. Was it Oliver that went to some initial Course for the WC 2022 in Qatar?

Královec hasnt been seen for an eternity it seems, and he has an important observer posted to his game in Plautz. A very good game for Madden in Serbia too.
Gil has shown he is a competent safe official.

Important observer for Marciniak. Not sure Wales will be thrilled with the erratic Aytekin.
I hadn't realised Mr Kapitanis was such an important Observer. However, Michael Oliver has an extremely important and significant Observer.
I ususlly look to edy to gain wisdom about European refereeing matters but I am not sure I have seen him post much lately. I hope all is well with him.
Echo those comments completely. I wouldnt be surprised if Rizzoli is one of the big chiefs of UEFA in the future.

Not a great appointment for Wales v Hungary, and IMO not sensible given the last time Hategan messed up on British soil. Cakir or one of the safe hands would have been much more pragmatic. He does however have an important observer.
Scotland have the pleasure of Basil Fawlty for their last match.

I don't think the fact Hategan did poorly in a game in Northern Ireland should prevent him doing a game in Wales two years later (apart from if it was felt to be symbolic of his general performance level.)
He seems well-established in UEFA refereeing and seems very likely to go to Euro 2020, so no reason he shouldn't get the game.
-
no reason he shouldn't get the game.
Try telling that to a Northern Irish person, whose secondary residency is in Hungary...
I will be watching from the press box. Very small contingent of Hungarian press going so we're having a late lunch together & then onto the game, we're staying at the same hotel as our team!
-
The Polish referee Pawel Gil didn't have much to do in tonight's Kosovo v England game, but he did seem benevolent towards Harry Winks in the 1st half, with one foul in particular which should have been yellow carded after the Kosovo advantage ended. The lack of a card and the card issued to a Kosovo player in the 2nd half for a similar foul showed a lack of consistency, which was a pity in my view as this was an entertaining game in which both sides tried to play attacking football.
-

It's not even just that. Last International game Hungary had a 1 match behind closed doors ban (quite rightly as I have previously said) due to anti Romanian chants throughout the game from the Ultras. Within days of that Kovács István was racially abused when refereeing a derby match in Romania for being ethnic Hungarian. There is a hatred between the 2 nations going back centuries that is not going away anytime soon despite the best efforts of many to try and rid BOTH nations of it. Dr Csányi has been all over the Hungarian media the past 2 weeks literally begging the Ultras to cut out the anti Romanian stuff at games because it harms our National Team so UEFA respond by appointing a Romanian ref to a crucial Hungarian game. There are now ultras travelling to the game who weren't going before & I'm pretty sure it's with the intent to chant anti Romanian stuff for 90 mins! Ridiculous on the part of UEFA to appoint a Romanian referee at a time when Hungary have just had a 1 match ban for anti Romanian chants. Dr Csányi is really trying to stamp it out & will issue lifetime bans to anyone found guilty of the chants but UEFA are not helping him in his efforts. I don't think Kovács István can referee Hungary competitively because although he is technically Romanian he is ethnic Hungarian & I believe has Hungarian citizenship.
On a personal level I will add I can't stand him as a referee because of the Northern Ireland game, his worst but not his only poor game, imo, & not because he is Romanian. Hategan's nationality doesn't bother me in the slightest. His ability to destroy my NT games however does! My best friend is an ethnic Hungarian born in Romania.
-
Usual rubbish from Nijhuis at Hampden. Should have been a red for a nasty studs up challenge by a Khazak player and how Burke wasn't given a penalty for a blatant foul on 84 mins was puzzling.
-
Can't say I was overly impressed with Hategan tonight. Very inconsistent, an example Patkai was climbing all over a Welsh player, hands on his shoulder literally holding him down, nothing given but within 2 mins a Welsh player did the same to a Hungarian player & free kick instantly given. Lots of similar inconsistencies throughout the game in respect of both teams. Wales were literally playing Hungary off the park, a far superior team and Hungary resorted to persistent silly fouls - we were not pretty to watch! No yellow cards until the 65th minute by which time we could have had by my reckoning 5 different players booked for persistent fouling. I like lenient referees but sometimes you can be too lenient. The silly little fouls had reached ridiculous levels before he took any action. We have someone totting up Baráth's fouls & I have my money on him committing more fouls that there were shots by both teams, seriously he was embarrassing and the total will be over 12-15 before he finally got a YC. Penalty shout for Hungary in the 1st half, which he quite rightly waved away, there was a slight push but nowhere near enough for a penalty imo. He did play a couple of lovely advantages for Wales, none for Hungary but we would have had to actually do some attacking for that opportunity to occur! His fitness was excellent, positioning decent and he built up a good rapport with players from both teams. Nothing majorly wrong, with his refereeing anyway, Hungary's defending on the other hand... Just very inconsistent & difficult to know what was and wasn't a foul as it was pot luck if he gave a kick or not. A smiley overly lenient performance.
Thankfully I did not hear any anti Romanian chanting from the ultras. This is of course may partially be due to them being drowned out by a very loud and melodic home crowd but hopefully the spotters there to ensure it didn't happen, yet again, didn't hear any either! I do sincerely hope it's because the ultras have listened to Dr Csányi & didn't go there. He was in attendance along with our PM. Always good to see them supporting the team & wearing the NT colours even in the posh area!! They were both belting out the National Anthem as well! I like Dr Csányi, I think he represents the federation very well & is a genuine football man. He tries to do right for the game in general.
The Welsh fans were superb, spine tingling when they sung their anthem, I know it is stereotypical but the Welsh do sing beautifully. No wonder they gave us some pitying looks with our out of key effort at our National Anthem!
The far better team won on the night & whilst gutted I have no complaints with the scoreline. Congrats to Wales for qualifying for the Euros. As for us, well play offs here we come - again!

I watched the match as well and I echo the sentiments about Hategan. Very lenient approach and literally he did nothing to stop Hungary from fouling all the time. His performance reminded me one of a FIFA tournament. He seemed to try hard to keep the cautions on his pocket at any cost.
Clear example is N5 from Hungary with did over 10 fouls to the match and wasn't booked. Unbelievable.

That is Baráth who I specifically mentioned and guesstimated 12-15 fouls from him. I thought he did get booked in the end? Embarrassing from him anyway!!

I'm not counting chickens here but this path has the potential to get very messy!
Path A:
Iceland v Romania
Bulgaria v Hungary

A potential Romania - Hungary PO Final would be the hotter match. Kuipers or Brych would be my choices.
-
It will be interesting to see how important UEFA view these play offs.
Do you:
(a) Appoint referees from the lower third of the Elite group and say "here is your chance" or
(b) follow the Champions League example (where play offs are seen as v important) and appoint Cakir, Brych, Kuipers etc?
-
I would say the second option. The referees will have been chosen for Euro 2020 by then presumably so would make sense to pretty much use them for the 12 games.
I wonder if they'll use VAR or wait until the Euros?

I would hope given the importance of the matches for the teams involved that the likes of Cakir, Brych, Kuipers etc will be used.
Hungary v Romania if it happened would need a very strong referee, it is a bit of a bloodbath at best! Sadly if it does happen I fear it will be remembered for which set of ultras managed to boo the loudest during the opposing anthems, which set of ultras won the street battle before and after the game & possibly even during it and how big the fines are for each country for the racism!! The pyros would be awesome though! If you go onto youtube and search for either anthem at a game between the 2, you will see how hostile the atmosphere is. I wish it would stop and I can imagine both FAs are hoping it doesn't happen. I would certainly go but wouldn't even wear my Hungary scarf even in the relative safety of the press box! Hungary however haven't won in Bulgaria for 53 years and Iceland will be no push over for Romania especially away from home. The Iceland fans are amazing!
Also a potential for Northern Ireland to play the Republic of Ireland (again not counting chickens...). It would be very loud! That would need a strong referee as well but I don't think it would be a hostile game.

What about Collum? 😏😋

Despite the fact that the finals are a month away I would say that Brych, Kuipers, Taylor and Del Cerro Grande will get the finals.
I would be very surprised to see someone like Aytekin, Zwayer or Sidiropoulos on any of those matches.

4 refs for the 4 path finals-i think Taylor,Oliver, Brych, and 1 other probably go with the more experienced especially with a place at the euros at stake

Hungary's game v Iceland is now behind closed doors. It was a sell out crowd. The MLSZ will be reimbursing all ticket costs.
I have a UEFA accredited press ticket but have been refused permission to travel. I expected that after being refused travel for the Fradi CL game. I'm told though that only reporters & cameramen from M4 sports are going to be allowed into the stadium & everyone else has to use the M4 camera feeds to cover the game. One of the guys from Nemzeti Sport (the official national sports newspaper) has said they have been told by the MLSZ that they are not allowed entry either. M4 are very good about giving us all extra access including to interviews and pressers that aren't shown on TV.
I only really wanted to go as it meant I could sneak in as many as 36 hrs with Mr bmb!

Referee: Björn Kuipers (NED)
Assistant Referee 1: Sander van Roekel (NED)
Assistant Referee 2: Erwin E. J. Zeinstra (NED)
Fourth Official: Serdar Gözübüyük (NED)
Video Assistant Referee: Pol van Boekel (NED)
Assistant Video Assistant Referee: Dennis Higler (NED)
UEFA Referee Observer: Roberto Rosetti (ITA)
UEFA Delegate: Tarik Shamel (ENG)
Delighted with this appointment. Huge game for both teams and we have probably the best referee that we could for it. It should purely be down to the 2 teams on the night. Mr Rosetti observing - even more gutted I have been refused travel! Hajrá Magyarok!

UEFA threw their big guns for these matches. The 3 names were expected after the PO matches apart from Lahoz (who already had a SF). But it seems that UEFA wanted very experienced referees for the PO matches.
So they should to be honest. I know the big nations treat the Nations League and the subsequent path to a Euro place as a joke but for us smaller nations it actually gives us a chance to compete in a tournament with the big boys. Huge game for all 8 nations competing this week.
Hajrá Magyarok! GAWA!

All the observers are big hitters too...

Mr Batta will have been happy with the performance he watched tonight. Some excellent man management included which was loud enough to hear over the camera.
Huge congrats to Macedonia - the first time they have ever qualified for a major tournament. This is what the Nations League is all about!

I think the whole of the south coast of England heard the Szoboszlai winner lol.

Even as far north as Scarborough 😍
-
Not like they have a tough draw either now that theyre through 😏😋
-
What a match in Belgrade!!! Serbia equalized at 90' but Scotland is through on penalties. Congrats.
Mateu Lahoz with a good performance. He wasn't really challenged but maintained control and had good foul detection. The rain and the heavy pitch on the first half made it quite tricky but he managed the match pretty well.
Good decision by Rosetti and co to appoint him for this match.

What an amazing night of football. This is why the Nations League is just so incredibly special for the little nations - the love, support & respect between the little nations is something big nations fans really miss out on. You get the wins, the regular tournaments, the glory for sure but you miss out on those special moments because they are normal for you.
When North Macedonia won, I was watching with one of their press guys (online but we also had a press chatroom open) and when the final whistle went, the entire Balkan and Slavic regions erupted in joy! The congrats coming in from Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine and even Romania. Genuine delight for them and it was beautiful as a football fan to witness.
The latter games - oh my! My beloved Norn ion didn't make it though, but we go again for the next ones. Happy (ish!!) for Slovakia - the ish only because it was at the expense of NI! Didn't mind so much the Serbia v Scotland result - I have good friends from both nations so delighted for the Scots and so sad for the Serbs.
As for Hungary! OMG. Szoboszlai Mr bmb didn't have time to hit the mute button on Skype - his ears may recover one day! Bring on the big boys!!! Yep we will get stuffed in every single game but do you know what, we will love every second that we spend there, it's going to be so special. Congrats have been pouring in from the Slavic and Balkan regions. It's a great night in our history!
I remember Tom, one of our press guys raving about Szoboszlai when he was still about 15/16. He was the first in the press camp to notice how special this kid is. Thankfully I have had the time to learn to spell his name (and pronounce it) before he has become well known! ;D
Tonight was for you Marton Fulop. 5 years ago today he passed away. Hungary beat Norway that night in the 1st playoff semi final (Clatts was ref & booked Gera - he is still not forgiven for that perfectly correct decision!), we were all in absolute shock about Marton, 3 days later we had a mins silence for him before the 2nd leg, I was sat near his family - we won and qualified for our first Euros in 44 years and 1st major tournament in over 30 years. Marton was on the pitch with us in both games. The day of our 1st Euros match there was a photo of our 3 goalies with a pair of Fulops gloves given to Király by Fulops dad. Király had them on the pitch with him - we won 2-0. Köszönöm Marton. Nyugodjon békében :'(
Off to drink copious amounts of pálinka to celebrate and copious amounts of whiskey to drown my sorrows about Northern Ireland.
What a night!!!
Oh yeah Mr Kuipers can come again, superb performance from team ref!
-
Ah, Kiraly, I don't assume he will be in goal in his trackie bottoms in the Euro finals ;D
Well done anyway, let's hope the Euro 2020, sorry 2021 finals, become a reality, England v Scotland on 18th June should be tasty!

My heart broke the day Király retired! He was my favourite!
1st competitive game between England & Scotland since 2017 - my first thought was I wonder who will referee it! That will need a big name in charge.

I will dare to make an eraly prediction: Karasev.... ;)

I reckon it will be Brych or Cakir with Turpin or Davide Massa as outsiders

Haha! Keeps him away from Hungary games so I'm all for it!
I think Kuipers, Brych or Cakir are the most likely candidates.

Hungary can have Karasev on MD 1 or 3. I shall pass the idea on a certain Greek Prince (the other one).
IMO Brych is the best candidate. He already had an England-Wales match on 2016 UEFA Euro.

Kuipers, best European ref around and with a good, steady head.

Actually that would be a really good appointment. He was very good on the PO Serbia-Scotland match.

OMG Szoboszlai
Pronounced Shob-a-sch-lie right? I scouted him and signed him in a Football Manager career I had last season, and he assisted the winner for Aguero in the CL Final ::) ;D

Ugh teeth on edge - don't listen to English commentators! They butcher his name every single time!!
Soh-boh-sloi
Sz = English S
o is a short oh
b like the English b
l like l in little
ai is oi
The English always pronounce Kassai as Cass-eye but it's Kosh-oi
Nagy is Nodge - like dodge with an n not a d! Dear Lord the English commentator tonight with saying noigee!
I need to swap to M4sport at half time - it's painful to my ears!

When in doubt they should follow the example of David Coleman, who many decades ago found himself commentating on a game between Northern Ireland and the Soviet Union. The Soviet team included a Georgian defender who rejoiced in the name of Revaz Dzodzuashvili, and Coleman took care to refer to him throughout as 'the man marking George Best'.
I suppose we should be thankful that another man with a splendid name, Matevos Karapetovich Mkrtchyan, had too short a career as an international referee to come to the notice of British TV commentators.
