Title: Mr. Sarginson Peterborough v The Real Dons
Post by: Skydank on Wed 28 Nov 2018 08:34
I don’t know what to think about Mr Sarginson’s performance at a damp London Road yesterday.

On the one hand he let a poor game flow, was very lenient and had a high tolerance level for physical contact, unlike his assistants who flagged for every little bit of contact, but at least he was consistent in his application.

Posh had 2 penalty appeals in the ‘I’ve seen them given category’, but the player as the modern way seemed to check his run and wait for the contact, as such no complaints with the decisions.

He managed a quite physical game well with no cards, but ultimately, I and the majority of the crowd where left unimpressed.

When he did blow for a foul, on more than one occasion the crowd and the players stopped and waited a good while before Mr Sarginson realised, he had to signal who the free-kick was for, it really was that arbitrary, a number of times.

His view on advantage was again arbitrary to say the least, a number of times he signalled advantage in a very crowded midfield where the players on a horrible and wet night really just wanted a breather.
He then let one passage of play go on for a good 15-20 seconds and the ball the other end of the pitch and brought the ball back.

However, big complaints with the last five minutes where he overturned a goal-kick given by the assistant from twice the distance, should have given a couple of free-kicks to Wimbledon, on of which resulted in a kick to the face when challenging for a high ball, and seemed to think we were playing basketball as there where 2 or 3 of the most blatant handballs you ever did see.

Then to top it off an obvious throw in to all 22 players was given the other way.

Some good old expereienced refereeing undone by gettingthe basics so obvioulsy wrong.

On the whole, I think that if at the end of the game the crowd are either laughing at your decisions or singing ‘You’re not fit to Referee’ you’ve not had the best of nights.

But maybe I’m wrong.

He’s just not very good. Worst still he appears to think he is .

I've never been convinced by him either.... thankfully the old days of us in the championship when we had the likes of Sarginson and Kettle at our place subsided when SG2 was created... that said, some of SG2 are as Nemesis quite rightfully says are "stealing a living".

Don't rate him. Poor official, who I think thinks is better than he is.
