Southampton's request not to have Lee Mason anywhere near their games obviously fell on deaf ears then...
-
Am I right in thinking that Lee Mason has to travel down from his home in Lancs to the 'bunker' near Heathrow every time he's appointed to be a VAR? Or has he moved south?

Good! Clubs should not dictate that sort of thing.
Rather a boring set of appointments, as ever. Too much Atkinson and Moss etc, not enough Jones/Madley/England. And as for the new lot...

Seven EFL matches covered by SG referees and not one has gone to the promoted gang of four. Based on that I wouldn't expect any of them to have a Premier League appointment the weekend after either.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Appointments boring me (and many) to tears. Such a shame
-
I dont see any point in promoting someone to not referee! Why not keep them at SG2 and give them a handful of PL games to bed them in before promotion!?! Absolutely ridiculous!

The new lot might get an appointment in late dec as a xmas present !!
-
Fully agree, then perhaps promote them later in the season

Use Aug - Dec for trials & promoted in January , like FIFA.

Love to know why Colchester v Bristol Rovers needs SG1

Strange times. L1 referees are being used on lower league leagues to plug gaps, so I guess SG1 and SG2 referees are being used lower than normal to maintain cover.

Personally I'm a bit less concerned about Harrington/Salsbury/Brooks, although I think they should be getting more EFL games at the very least. Gillett for Mason was the normal 1 in 1 out, so I look at the other 3 as more being additional numbers. I guess it is largely down to structural issues and logistics as to whether it's better to have them do a few PL games as SG1 and presumably benefit from VAR training and the meet-ups or if they remain as SG2. I guess the 3 concerned are happy to be promoted! I think it's those promoted since 2019, and Gillett, who need more PL opportunities first and foremost.
-
Do we know that the newly promoted SG1 referees have not had long and detailed "career development" discussions with senior PGMOL managers which have given them indications and expectations about their utilisation?

So far this season Harrington has reffed 3 games, Gillet and Brooks 4 each and Salisbury 5.
Contrast to a couple at random - Eltrincham has reffed 10 and Brakespeare 12.
Sitting frustratingly on the touch line or tv booth or out there in the middle plying my trade? I know which I would rather do

2 disadvantages to this in my book, 1. All it does it put a sticky plaster over the very real crisis of referee shortages allowing the FA to pretend it's not happening and 2. L1 refs are going to, in general at least, be better than the L2/3/4 refs they are replacing. Not a criticism - those at lower level are still developing and working their way up. Clubs, especially "those" type of clubs are going to expect the lower level referees to perform at the same level as the L1's and when they don't there is a chance it will lead to even more ref abuse.
-
what is the point in promoting the new refs if they are going to keep being in amongst sg2s
I suppose they'll get a game as an early xmas present!!!!
-
Question is, which Christmas!
-
Arsenal - Mike Dean. :o
-
Will they wait until tomorrow after tonight's game to start the appointments?
-
Yes
