Just noticed Graham Scott, Premier League official, is in charge of Cardiff v Rotherham. Hope he has a good game.
-
I understand why they've gone to SG1, but I think it's a shame that after SG2 looking after the vast majority of big matches in the Championship this season, the biggest match goes to a referee who hasn't done a single Championship fixture this season before this weekend. Scott with the other match is better as he has at least had his fair share of Championship matches.

No surprise to see the Wirral card shark on the relegation clash. Let’s hope he’s in a good mood ;D
It won't be a relegation clash if Rotherham win tonight, it will be pretty much a dead rubber.

If rotherham win tonight, big if on present form, and lose heavily at cardiff on sunday ( shd be saturday )
then it could be a three way shoot out, that would make life interesting.
-
Mike Dean was also in charge of the relegation shoot out in the Championship in May 2010 at Hillsborough when Crystal Palace drew 2-2 and sent Sheffield Wednesday down to L1. The game was live on the Beeb and I couldn't bear to watch much of it!
-
Yes, I remember that well. You know it won't be your day when your centre forward equalises then dislocates his toe when kicking the advertising hoardings in celebration and has to go off, if anything summed up Wednesday's season in a nutshell that was it ... ::)

They would have to lose very heavily on that final day. They already have a 5 goal advantage on Wednesday and 6 on Derby, but they have also scored more so essentially that means it is a 6 and 7 goal lead. Win tonight and that becomes 7 and 8, and I can't remember a situation where a 7 or 8 goal difference swing has happened on the last game of the season. Added to that Derby and Wednesday's forwards are incapable of hitting a cow's arse with a banjo and are amongst the lowest scorers in the division, 3 points tonight for Rovrum means it is all over unfortunately.

Am I missing something here? If Rotherham win tonight they will go level with Derby on 43 points. So Derby v Sheff Wed will still be a massive game on Saturday. Derby would need to better Rotherham's result to stay up regardless of goal difference?

If Rotherham win, they are effectively safe as both Derby and Sheffield Wednesday can't overtake them as they are playing each other!

But they aren't though. They will be fourth bottom and above Derby on goal difference only. So if Derby better Rotherham's result on Saturday Rotherham will go down.

Rotherham have to finish above both Derby and Sheffield Wednesday so must now win on the final day and hope Derby don't

Sorry, you're right. I'd misread the points.
Anyway, they didn't win at Luton, so it's a bit clearer now.

Just need a rotherham win and a draw at derby or a sheff weds win to save rotherham.
A loss or draw for rotherham means sheff weds only need a single goal victory to save themselves.

It’s not a surprise really that SG1 have got what is now two relegation blockbusters at the weekend....

With Mike Dean in charge of such a vital game in relegation zone, I wonder if there is a chance he would be in charge of championship playoff final later?

Would make for an interesting day for Atkinson if they did, especially with Colin on the touchline, however i dont
Think he would be there too long.

I don't normally pay too much attention to who is acting as fourth official as will probably be shown by my question. For Championship matches are they normally from the National List and above these days ? If so is there anything to be read into Scott Tallis acting as fourth official this weekend ?

There is usually a mixture every week, ranging from Conference referees, league 1 and 2 referees and Select Group 2 referees. There has also even been occasions when Assistant referee’s from Select Group 2 have been fourth official this season. From the conference, I’ve seen the likes of Daniel Lamport, Daniel Middleton, James Durkin all have fourth official appointments in the championship this season. There are probably more too.
