Glad Attwell finally gets a big 6 game this season!
Good to see Jones and England get a game!
Marriner with a midweek game again.
OLIVER WITH CITY AGAIN!!! HE ONLY HAD THEM THE OTHER WEEK 😡
-
That is a huge game for Mason, very surprised he has that one.
Happy with Taylor for us at Palace, and good to see Attwell pick up a decent top six clash.

I wonder if they are keeping Oliver away from the fight at the bottom, not that in any way he would adversely influence those games with his Newcastle connection.

I'm surprised whenever I see him get a game. And despair when he's at Hillsborough or any time involving the Owls. Poor again Saturday. So normal performance for him
-
Excellent game for Attwell, thoroughly deserved IMO! Also great to see Pawson’s good run continue and Jones and England back in the frame.
I’m not going to comment on Mason’s appointment otherwise I would have to moderate my own post! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Very good. The FA will probably give him the FA Cup Final if there's no fans!!!! I'll go and sit on the BMB's naught step now ;D
-
Hooray a game for England Jones and madley!!!!! Shame no game for hooper though
-
So great to see Attwell finally getting trusted in PL cause I suppose he is one of the best refs this season.
-
Yes, an excellent appointment for Attwell, and another good game for Pawson.
It will be interesting should there be a controversial penalty awarded at the Etihad with Andre Marriner as VAR in the light of last Saturday's incident in the Merseyside derby. Oliver has shown he's not reluctant to give penalties whereas Marriner is more cautious. And Dermot Gallagher seemed to confirm it was the penalty decision that resulted in Marriner recommending a review at Anfield.

I agree re Taylor. I'm relieved that the Palace nicked all three points at Brighton last night, but Palace v Fulham is still fairly crucial for both clubs at the wrong end of the PL table.

Mason has refereed around 300 premier league games, a championship final and league cup final I doubt that he is not capable of refereeing West Brom v Brighton.
-
Get Attwell a Burnley season ticket. Our Var yet again. Adrian Holmes consecutive games as lineo for us too

In a yellow shirt ?
-
Good games for all concerned.
Surprised mason gets the wba v brighton game.
Good to see attwell and pawson with games involving the big six.
Moss gets his usual game involving a top six side, guess only riley knows how.
Nice to see jones, england and madley with games too.
Bankes might have his hands full at leeds.

I think you will find he has a season ticket to Stockley Park... ;)

shame no prem game this weekend for Scott or hooper

Would that more than 1.35% of the footballing fraternity shared your confidence. If Mason had been around at the heyday of our top English refs in the 70s and 80s I doubt he would have got anywhere near a PL car park, let alone pitch side. His Cup Final appearances are not a reflection on his own ability, more a case of a lack of quality among referees and poor management by those at the top,

If a comparison between Mason and referees of the 1970s and 1980s is made then I would say that he is certainly no Joe Worrall but neither is he an Alan Turvey. More a Brian Daniels perhaps in terms of ability.

Moss does get a large number of high profile matches which many on RTR find hard to understand why. I believe Moss is reckoned by the PGMOL to be able to deliver matches safely ( whether or not one agrees with that is another matter ) and I understand the Clubs are always pretty content for him to referee their matches

I'd agree with that assessment, to be fair to Moss I don't think he has had many disasters of late. Inspecting his performances more closely however, I feel he misses/ignores a number of yellow card offences then issues cards for offences that don't seem to warrant one, makes very little effort at all to engage with the players and does the bare minimum in terms of positioning. Safe? Probably a fair evaluation, but far from good.
-
I remember being told this by a senior Observer/Assessor about Moss. He doesn't look very much like an athlete because of his body shape rather than his body mass. However, on a sprint, he is measured as being not among the slowest in SG1. It takes some believing but I think it's right that his appearance is not typical of a modern athletic referee and so that may count against him in how he is perceived. Interestingly I have also heard that he is a referee who does enjoy rapport with the players but it's done in a quiet and not overtly matey way.

Very interesting insights Whistleblower, many thanks. While I do agree that body shape might lend to a perception that his positioning is poorer, I would be very confident that if one were to analyse his level of penetration into the penalty are and average distance from play they would be in the lower rankings of SG1 referees. That said, positioning is not everything, Marriner and Dean two fantastic referees I would guess would also be in the lower half in terms of those parameters.
With respect to his interactions with players I do think that at the top level it is not only a case of making an effort to interact with them it is also important to be seen to do so when appropriate of course. I remember one referee coach speaking about body language saying basically why make the point to only one when you can make it to however many are looking at you!

I look forward to your thoughts on the appropriate thread Hendo!

I think one official may well be replaced on Wednesday night.....
-
Mason replaced by John Brooks today for Liverpool game, apparently picked up an injury yesterday
-
That seems oddly rather convenient to me.....
-
Parking the Mason controversy for a moment, how is it any way sensible to appoint a referee as fourth official for a game taking place the day after he has refereed a Premier League game. The fourth official could be called up on to officiate at any time - perhaps for the whole game if the appointed referee tweaks a hammy in the warm up. No referee could or should be put in the position of potentially refereeing two Premier League games in consecutive days. If players were asked to do that .... :o

Did I not hear somewhere that Lee was accidentally bowled over early in the game at WBA and it was thought that this might have affected his confidence and performance? I didn't see the collision on MOTD or evidence during the game that he was hurt, but perhaps he really is injured rather than using injury as an excuse to step aside today.

He cetainly was bowled over by Gallagher who really clattered him. He got up quickly and shared a laugh with the offending player because it was a pure accident. It certainly would have shook him up, however, I can't comment on whether or not this affected anything else, only Lee can answer that question. I would not be surprised if he did sustain an injury which manifested itself later in the game because he really was sent flying.
I thought at the time that it was a good job that he was not a player because he would probably have been rolllling around, holding his head etc., etc. ad nauseam. He just got up and carried on.

Jon Moss has replaced Mason on Wednesday at Burnley
-
Again?

Per the premier league website.
Martin Atkinson has replaced Craig Pawson at Anfield tonight, Kevin Friend has replaced Atkinson as 4th official for the West Brom v Everton game.

Craig Pawson stood down from refereeing LFC v Chelsea as a precaution after being informed that a close contact had tested positive for coronavirus. He will now isolate and has been replaced by Martin Atkinson this evening. (@dmlynch on Twitter)
