Title: La Rochelle vs Exeter Chiefs

Firstly, what a lovely place, both town and stadium. Secondly, how brilliant the locals have been welcoming us here. Thirdly, what a performance (was closer than the score suggested)

In the midst of all this was a wee Scotsman, Mike Adamson, current #1 north of the border. They had comms issues before the game and once or twice during the match (he had to do TMO review on a tablet with the 5th officials headset on to rule out a try)
Although I do not think he made any glaring errors I also did not feel full of confidence in him. Decisions around the scrum felt more random than usual, breakdowns lacked consistency (although we did give some stupid penalties away) and on another day with 2 different teams, what I saw, suggests he might struggle.

La Rochelle for their part attacked from anywhere and with a little more composure would have made it much tighter.

Some great tries on both sides. Bonus point collected midway through 2nd half.

Very enjoyable afternoon out. Need to back this up against Glasgow next week

La Rochelle is a lovely town with its twin towers at the harbour and its many outdoor cafes. A good rugby match is a bonus!

The weather has allowed for wandering, wrapped up against the cold breeze off the sea.
Highlights include the number of green areas, the small free "zoo", getting onto the beach, quality of some of the buildings and the large number of pastries 😀
