MIDDLESBROUGH (First Team) v Norwich City FC (First Team)       Live on Sky Sports Red Button
Football League Championship
Referee: Madley, Robert
Assistant Referee: Antrobus, Blake
Assistant Referee: Hunt, Jonathan
Fourth Official: Kitchen, Andrew

Only just caught up with the TV highlights. If Robert was thinking in terms of moving onwards and upwards, he would have done himself no favours with a straight red for a Norwich player for allegedly kicking an opponent following a tangle in midfield. I don't often agree with commentators when they comment adversely on refereeing decisions, but this was one where I was in full agreement. The only contact seemed to come as the players untangled themselves and, if that was kicking out at an opponent, then we may as well all pack up and go home. A very poor decision in my view and one which changed the whole nature of the game.

Red card apparently overturned and the Norwich player took his place in the team yesterday. The only correct decision in my view and I would hope that Robert would have played a part in getting the card overturned.

Thought it best for me not to comment. But totally agree, thankfully the player doesn't get a 4 game ban, perhaps Mr Madley should instead. He failed to book Ayling in the first minute for a bad tackle and went downhill from then on. It doesn't get the 3 points which after 30 minutes looked extremely likely. Perhaps Howson should get a ban for deceiving officials?

Surely this has to be a joke I get teams will get some refs two or three times a season but this is Josh smiths 7th Ipswich game this season. How come we have not had Langford Davies or even Simpson this season.

A plea for Simpson… things must be bad! 😛😛😛

A plea for Simpson ?   ........... guilty

A plea bargain perhaps.....we'll behave ourselves and respect the match officials if you don't send him.

Not the only Simpson to have escaped the consequences of his alleged misdemeanours !

Attwell now listed on Bristol City v Cardiff on the EFL site. Is that a replacement?

It does makes sense for why the appointment was delayed and the Assistants listed but definitely not him doing the game.

Another excellent appointment for Tom Kirk. If I'm correct then that's three on the trot

Hope it goes well for him and he can cement an SG2 spot next season

Hill, Kirk and Toner with yet more championship appointments, hope all goes well for them.

Particularly pleased to see Gill at SoL for the first time in what appears a decent appointment on paper. Hope all goes well for him!

Big games for the relatively-inexperienced (at this level) Lewis Smith and Andrew Kitchen. A sign of things to come perhaps?

We've got lucky.

I was going to say is wanting (b) in your dreams or nightmares?
I know i would be waking up most nights in a sweat if they were appointed regular to my team.

On another point a good tv game outing fri night for Lewis Smith and a very feisty west yorkshire derby tv game for Andrew Kitchen.

Ipswich are nearer the PL than L1 so If I were you, I would say "more please".

I spoke to someone who works where they train.  They saw Linington doing his coaching badges.  Could be moving over.

The appointments I believe are made by Alan Wiley

A decent test for Sunny Singh Gill at Sunderland on the Wednesday night.

Royalty for the M4 derby at Ashton Gate and a nice long trip for Stroud at Hull.

I look forward to hearing from our esteemed Plymouth reporters on how Josh Smith does as he has been out of the appointments until recently.

Unless Barrott is potentially at Turf Moor on Sunday for the TV game (he had the reverse), looks like Allison is getting a 2nd PL game as he isn't here or in L1/2. Unless he has the weekend off?

This is quite bizarre and I suspect something fishy is going on. This will mean JJ will have had FIFTEEN 4th O appointments since the start of the year and only 1 middle. I don’t think he can be injured as, if he is, he couldn’t take over if the match referee were injured.
If someone at SG 2 is trying to make a disciplinary point then it seems a rather weird way of doing so. I can’t recall any of his games this season being so bad that he is being punished but maybe others can. As one of SG2’s most experienced and most reliable “safe hands” this doesn’t seem to stack up in my opinion.
Does anyone know who is responsible for SG2 appointments?

I didn't realise JJ has had that many 4O appointments, Hendo. I take your point re injury/taking over a game. I just couldn't think of any other explanation for his appointments. Quite bizzare, as you say.

Championship returns for Jeremy Simpson and Josh Smith. That will be Smith's 18th Championship match of the season, just a third of those involving Ipswich.
