Variously described as being of London, then Aldershot and finally South Farnborough
Born at Milnrow, near Rochdale, Lancashire in the first quarter of 1877

Son of William, a tailor in Dale Street, Milnrow, Rochdale (1842-1908) and Marion Hasted Foster (Q3 1841- Q4 1922)
the family re-located back to his father's birthplace almost immediately after his birth
and William (Jr) was baptised at Rippondon, 5 miles South-West of Halifax 3rd June 1877
the family were still there in 1881 and 1891
He joined the Army in the early 1890's and rose to become a Sergeant in the Grenadier Guards
and married Rose Matilda Addy (1877-1948) at Christ Church, Chelsea 24th December 1901
Served in the Sudan campaign with bars awarded for Omdurman and Khartoum
1911 based at Pirbright Army Camp in Surrey
Freemason
Invalided out of the Army early in 1914 after over 20 years service
and then continued as an Army contractor
Living at "Lynton", York Road, South Farnborough by July 1914
and died there 7th January 1917, aged 39
and buried at Victoria Road cemetery, Farnborough
He often took midweek matches in the Southern and South-Eastern Leagues
