Do you know anything more about him? I umpired a few U-19 County Matches with a gentleman of that name who lived in Slaithwaite. Could it be the same person?

Even in 1949-50, Lewisham would have been part of London?  The London FA had its offices near there (Aldworth Grove) for a while.

Given that in the League in Lancashire I umpired regularly over several seasons with someone who was born in the 19th Century, the idea would not have been that unreasonable!
