The 1970 picture is of Iory (Iowerth) Jones. Usually he was seen with a thinning head of hair but occasionally earlier in his career with a full head of hair and one imagines he had some temporary "enhancement" in that area - he wasn't the only referee to do so in that era. The referee called Ron Jones was a much more junior official and as far as I know never refereed a European match although he was on the line a number of times. The reference to "Ken" Jones is a mistake.
I recall that after Ron Jones was tragically killed, a newspaper article suggested that he had been pleased that he had refereed his first European match in Iceland the week before, but I have no other details. Ken Jones was a BBC commentator, was he not?
He'd been due to referee his first European match around the end of September 1975, the car crash was a week earlier. Presuming the match was Akranes of Iceland v Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus his place was taken by Tom Reynolds.
