Norman Glover's final game was on Tuesday 6th May 1986 - Halifax 1 Mansfield 2 in Division 4. On Saturday 3rd May he refereed Hull v Brighton in Division 2 - Hull won 2-0. The match at Halifax was rearranged after being postponed on 28th December and in those days a referee would usually do the rearranged game - if it came after the end of the normal season this would then be their final game although the original appointment had been made many months earlier.

That sounds absolutely spot-on. Given that Norman was based in Chorley, both Halifax and Hull would have been regular haunts as FL appointments were regionalised in those days. In addition, my account of events could easily be flawed as I am trying to remember what I heard Norman say in a presentation to a referees' meeting in Huddersfield some 32 years ago !

Thanks LF, I have added Keith Styles to my database. The end of a 14-year career as a FL referee, Like John Homewood who retired at the same time after 13 years, I think Keith could count himself unlucky that he didn't referee a FA Cup Final or League Cup Final. It was a great pity in my view that FAC Final refs such as Partridge, Kew and Taylor were also given the opportunity to referee a League Cup Final in the 1970s. In my view, it should have been one or the other, as it was from 1966 (2nd leg) to 1970. I saw Keith referee Palace v Chelsea and he was good in a quiet, unassuming way. Smallish chap and not nearly as demonstrative as some of his colleagues at the time. Kevin Friend reminds me of him.
