If you're on Twitter this chap seems good at identifying linesmen.

Good luck with the book!

I think Brian Mc Ginlay's linesmen were DS (Douglas) Downie and JRS (Jim) Renton for Spain v Yugoslavia

I have got the autobiographies of Jack Taylor and Pat Partridge. I'll check these at the weekend on the off-chance that any of these linesmen might be mentioned.

"Discovery" suggests that the archives of the Football Association are held at The National Archives.

Has anyone any idea what they contain ?

CORRECTION - "Discovery" suggests that the FA hold their own archives.

Same question - what does these contain and how does one access them ?

I am certainly interested.  I've watched some Russian football since we got the Russian owners at AFCB. One of the original Russians who came in was connected with CSKA Moscow & was on the board there. I follow a bit now but more in terms of refereeing than the league/teams because I'm friends with the head of refereeing!

You may already have tried this option but looking for the match programmes on Ebay or elsewhere may reveal the answers - sometimes there is an image showing the line-ups and match officials. It's always possible there might have been a late change to the appointed officials but this was quite unusual.

Just for your records D. Hunting should read J. (John) Hunting and B. Homewood was known as John (B.J.) Homewood.

Sweden v Yugoslavia 1963 is currently on Ebay although the photo of the teams pages is not 100% clear. However one linesman is clearly V A Hemmings (who came from Letchworth, Herts) and the surname of the other looks like "Paine" which was probably R A Paine of Southall, West London.

The linesmen are given as Mr Bricknell and Mr Fullik.  Someone else might be able to help with confirmation of spellings and missing forenames.
