Moved around in the police force

Witney (OXF) 77-8
Bourn (CAM) 78-9 & 79-0
Harrogate (YOR) 80-1 to 86-7
Abingdon (OXF) 87-8 to 89-0

was 50 when interviewed in August 1990

lack of second initial so there are 8 possibilities for his birth date (Aug 1939-Aug 1940)

many of them in the North-East

Dartford, South Northumberland, Walsall, Hull, Huddersfield, Ilkeston, Durham West, Newcastle

He was born in July 1940. I don't know his birthplace but apparently he and his family were Cambridge City fans which suggests that - if not born in that area - they had been long resident there.

July 1940 eliminates the first three options

However there were five David (no second name) Hutchinson's born in the third quarter of 1940

Hull, Huddersfield, Ilkeston, Durham West, Newcastle

None of them very close to Cambridge

Strangely online Guildford R.A. have a "who am I" with a much younger David Hutchinson
born in Ilkeston whose highlight seems to have been in local Surrey matches

I knew David's father whose name was Perry   and as suggested Cambridge City fans.  Percy, like me, was on the Supporters Club committee.  I had always assumed they were Cambridge born a bred.  As I said in an earlier post I ran the line to David when the senior local league started having neutral rather than club linesmen.

The 5 fathers of the David's born Q3 1940 were Ronald, Thomas, Donald, David & Cyril

The only Percy, father of a David was
Percy who married Druscilla Scott Q1 1916 Nottingham
who had a David S. Q4 1940 Newcastle

This seems an unlikely candidate

David (the referee) married Patricia K. Sussums Q2 1981 Abingdon Reg. Dist
She was the daughter of Alfred A.J. Sussums and Eleanor J. Cook who married Q2 1942 at Ilford
Patricia was born Q2 1951 Abingdon

David & Patricia had a son, Max Ashby Hutchinson 1989 Oxford

David, Patricia, Max & mother in law Eleanor were all at Marcham, Abingdon in 2002

Assuming that there were not two David Hutchinson's living in Marcham over the course of the last decade or so :-

the minutes of the meetings of Marcham Parish Council suggest that he was still resident in Marcham in 2009 ;

the records of Companies House suggest that he was still resident in Marcham in 2012 ;

Incidentally, someone else seems to think that David comes from Cambridge :-

And this undated photograph suggests that David might still reside in the Abingdon area :-

As I said earlier I am pretty certain Cambridge was his birth place.  If it wasn't he certainly spend his formative refereeing years there as I knew him personally and ran the line to him.  When I knew him he was married.  He certainly lived here in Cambridge in his early Football League days

But I don't suppose that necessarily means he was born there.

David Hutchinson was born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire

Donald Arthur Hutchinson married Gladys Mary Bowcock Q1 1937 in the Peterborough Registration District
Donald (born 20 Sept 1908 North Witchford, Cambs, died early Sept 1992 Cambridge)
Gladys (born 19 Sept 1909 Stanground, Hunts, died 12 June 1996 Cambridge)

29 Sept 1939 register has them at 27 Sudbury Avenue, Ilkeston, Derbyshire
He was Manager of an Outfitters Store and an Air Raid Warden

They were still at Ilkeston when David's birth was registered there in July 1940

The family re-located to Cambridge after WWII and they are found in the Cambridge electoral registers in the early 50s
and were still there in 1966, the last version currently available

Hutchinson started officiating in Cambridgeshire football in the mid 60's.
David married Patricia K. Sussums (born Q2 1951 Abingdon) Q2 1981 Abingdon Reg. Dist
She was the daughter of Alfred A.J. Sussums and Eleanor J. Cook who married Q2 1942 at Ilford

David & Patricia had a son, Max Ashby Hutchinson 1989 Oxford

David, Patricia, Max & mother in law, Eleanor, were all at 71 Howard Cornish Road, Marcham, Abingdon in 2002
and David was still there in 2012
