But in the program for the match, another linesman J. Charles is indicated instead of Jays. Perhaps there was a replacement.

A very minor correction: Les Hamer was from Horwich rather than Norwich.

I believe in those days, the European Cup Final was normally refereed by a ref from the nation staging the Final unless a 'home' team was contesting the Final. I think this ended when a Greek ref made a complete hash of a Final in Athens (? involving Leeds?) which led to Finals being awarded mainly on merit rather than location.

That looks to hold true 1956-65 with 1956, 57 & 65 being handled by an outsider as a home team was in the final

The last home venue referee was in 1964 when Josef Stoll controlled Inter v Real in Vienna

Arthur Holland also refereed the Euro 1964 final Spain vs Soviet Union.

I have not managed to identify his assistants in this match, but I have found this clip

https://www.tokyvideo.com/video/spain-vs-soviet-union-full-match-euro-1964-final

The assistants are not named by the reporter at the start of the match. Some of you might know them if they are English.

I've also got these photos of the referees from the Spain vs Soviet Union match.

I do not have any idea about the gentleman on the left, but the tall man on the right looks like Konstantin Zekovic of Yugoslavia, though my spelling may not be 100% accurate!

That's 'definately' as in Line of Duty? I'll get my coat. I agree Zecevic who refereed at the World Cup finals in 1966 and had to be escorted off the pitch by police at the end of the West Germany v Argentina match.

The last photo is from the coin toss from that match. Didn't find any photos from the infamous incident.
