Wrexham v Oldham - Samuel Barrott
« on: Sun 06 Nov 2022 14:33 »
A live FA Cup match on ITV between two National League sides refereed by a League 1/2 official, Samuel Barrott.

This particular official impressed me greatly last year when he handled a terrific replay between Stockport and Bolton in this self same competition, and today, though the game wasn’t as exciting, Mr. Barrott did a sound enough job.

He is quietly efficient, with a nice understated style but not afraid to admonish players when they step out of line. A couple of yellow cards for Oldham players which were correct and he allowed the physical side of the game to happen too without detracting from his performance.

He also waved away a penalty appeal for Wrexham in the second half and it looked correct to do so, not enough in it for me to merit a spot kick. With Wrexham and their Hollywood backers winning easily, Mr. Barrott wasn’t tested to a great extent but did a competent job.

This referee also made his Championship debut in the week when he officiated Wigan v Stoke. He certainly is going places and could be a SG1 official within the next 4/5 years. One to watch.

I entirely agree. I very much like the officiating style of Samuel Barrott; as I have mentioned before he puts me in mind of Joe Worrall and there's no greater accolade from me than that. I think Mr Barrott is certainly on an upward trajectory and the fact he comes from West Yorkshire won't do him any harm !
