Kicking someone on the shin, free kick anywhere else on the pitch

2 cautions during added time,14 seconds extra played, time wasting doesn’t pay!!

I sort of agree on the extra time, but given he had booked a few players for time wasting and added 8 minutes on, mostly for time wasting, I thought he did more to clamp down on time wasting than any other referee I've seen this season.

Still not 100% sure on the penalty personally - and Chris wasn't in a position to make a decisive penalty call on that from where he was.

I thought Chris was excellent, brilliantly dealt with time wasting and adding on 8 minutes sent out a message imo , if other referees now followed rather than the standard 4 mins guessed I think players might think twice before dawdling. The only thing I was disappointed with was his leniency toward the Brighton manager who he was already going to yellow card before the rant and finger pointing which was poor and should have resulted in a red . All in all though I think chis should be pleased with his afternoons work .

Think Kavanagh added on sufficient time for time wasting, something i hate seeing my team do and also cautions were correct with seven issued to Villa a fine will be heading to Villa Park.
Martinez could have been sanctioned before he was, in fact he was lucky he wasnt cautioned before Cash.

Initial reaction ref the Digne incident in the penalty area was penalty and probably still is, as a villa fan think we got away with one there. Think it was more for the assistant or var to see.
Only mitigating circumstance was the ball hit Digne on the right leg first and thus var may have thought it was a coming together, but even that i find difficult to believe as Digne def kicked the Brighton player on the shin.

I thought that Martinez could (should?) have been carded early in the second half. The fact that he wasn't directly contributed to the persistent time-wasting  throughout the half; had Martinez been cautioned early on I would venture to suggest that this would have stopped.  I don't think that Chris Kavanagh added nearly enough time in the light of this.

I actually think cautioning a goalkeeper too early doesn’t speed things up but can actually make it worse… the problem being that referees won’t second caution for time wasting by a keeper and they know it. So you actually then give him free license to continue. I could be wrong, but that’s my take on it!

Certainly how it looks when keepers have been cautioned for it and then don’t speed up any further

Just seen the highlights and how is that not a penalty for Brighton? Linesman is 20 yards away and no excuses for Gillett on VAR!

I've only just seen the Digne incident when catching up with RefWatch, and while I could understand Kavanagh missing or misreading it, why on earth didn't VAR advise an OFR.
Dermot and the 2 pundits were adamant it should have been a penalty to Brighton and I absolutely agree. In no way could that be regarded as a subjective decision in my view.
Goodness knows what Gillett was looking at.

Good that Kavanagh added 8 minutes but then fell down by only adding a few extra seconds to that.

You're not wrong.

The Cheltenham keeper was carded for time wasting in the first half at Ipswich on Saturday. Thereafter further timewasting by him was allowed to continue unsanctioned by Geoff Eltringham. He did add a decent amount on at the end though.
