World Cup 2022 Nominees
« on: Wed 23 Jan 2019 11:42 »
RefereeingWorld has listed the nominations for the Cup. Have a look and see what you think. For me it can not be right. There are a number of omissions and bizarre names on the list. Thoughts?

Not enough names at this stage either - only 12 names. There's normally about 20.  I saw it last night & was about to kick off about Kassai's omission before realising he'd be retired by then (2020 or 21 if he gets a +1 year!)

Is this the list being referred to? http://refereeingworld.blogspot.com/2019/01/candidate-referees-for-fifa-world-cup.html

I've seen it posted elsewhere too. These are the officials going to the seminars over the next 6 weeks or so but presumably is not an exhaustive list - certainly, there are some names missing who have been to World Cups who I would expect to be in contention.

If it is, it's good to see Michael Oliver on the list, also Craig Pawson and Paul Tierney as VARs, particularly after the absence of British officials from the last World Cup. No Scottish officials as yet, but as has been pointed out, the list is presumably not exhaustive at this stage.

After the slops that Irratti served up in the VAR booth in the last World Cup I'm surprised he is on the provisional list. He should be no where near a tv monitor in the finals!!!

This is not the Final list.

Most names are included for the first time and some big names from UEFA are out.

It seems that FIFA called these referees having in mind the U20 and U17 tournaments which will take place on 2019.

I know it’s only provisional but does this list indicate that Michael Oliver is now unquestionably seen as our No1 by FIFA/UEFA? I wholeheartedly agree is so - always rated him better than Taylor.
