West Ham United v Fulham

More absolute nonsense as a result of the ridiculous directive for Assistants to keep their flag down. The West Ham player is in an offside position and the Fulham defender only attempts to play it because he can’t be sure. That’s interfering by any measure so why does VAR not intervene? In any Supply or Contrib game the Assistant would flag straight away. This on the same weekend that Bamford has a goal disallowed because the flawed technology says his upper arm is offside. Are they just trying to show how clever they are and ignoring what’s staring them in the face?

Telling Assistants not to get involved then not applying Law when it’s reviewed is pathetic. They might as well just ask one of the players’ Dads to run the line. Why any Level 3 would take the lining route rather than reffing is beyond me.

It’s getting worse week by week.

Only seen MOTD lowlights. Good review at the end, thought it was a penalty. Penny for Parker's thoughts on his penalty taker!

In response to Scally Bob - the first ball into the penalty area, not reaching attacker, has been play on for a good number of years (at all levels) so I disagree with you there.

With regard to "t shirt lines" being offside I have made my thoughts known elsewhere

I understand that in many instances the ball failing to reach the attacker is play on but in this case his presence whilst in an offside position has caused the defender to attempt to clear it. That attempt wasn’t great because he couldn’t reach it properly so the attacker gains an advantage. That’s how I see it and if I’d been the Assistant I’d have flagged.

I agree. I don't think the 'delayed flag' element is at all relevant here. Even going back 10 years, we've seen many examples of a defender attempting to play a ball because they don't know if the attacker is offside and if the attacking player hasn't committed an offence play continues.

If the assistant thought an offside offence had been committed then they'd still have put their flag up at the end of the move.

Excellent performance overall from Rob Jones.. I think that he'll be kicking himself though that he didn't spot the penalty himself...
