Trial Games
« on: Mon 15 Nov 2021 23:21 »
I’m sure other posters will know the answer to the first part, the second of course is a matter of opinion.

When do trial games usually take place for those being looked at for possible promotions to SG1 or SG2?
FA Cup Round 1 is always good indicator of which NL referees are possibly in the early running.

If they are handed out at some stage, who would you expect/like to see any possible trial games given to?

SG1:

SG2:

EFL:

I think that the fact 3 members of the SG1 are yet to referee a PL game yet, trial games are unlikely.

In terms offered SG2, I wouldn’t be surprised if Craig Hicks gets another chance. Also, David Rock seems to have been getting decent appointments last season and this so could be one to watch. And I think Bobby Madley is always likely to be in the discussion when it comes to SG2 promotions. When might they happen? I reckon closer to Easter time!

If we see SG1 games for Salisbury Brooks and Harrington this season, and they do do a trial game

SG1: James Linington,
Tim Robsinson I think will be promoted without another trial game as he had one last season I think

SG2: Bobby Madley and as others said David Rock

Not the most informed about the NL but I hear this name a lot and hear nothing but praise
EFL: Martin Woods

I personally can't see James Linington moving up. Years of experience, but I would have thought he would have moved up before now if he was ever going to. Also a few fitness doubts. I agree with you (GingerReferee) on Robinson and R Madley but not so sure about the suggestion of David Rock from EFL to SG2. But maybe that's me being jaundiced, having seen a woeful performance from him at Gresty Road on one of his first matches on the EFL.
