He was due to be fourth official for Tranmere yesterday, I wonder if he got taken off the fixture as he is refereeing them in the play-offs.

In that case, he wouldn't have been appointed in the first place!

Rumours of his retirement have been exaggerated for years.  Given his 'economy of movement' on the pitch, I can see him continuing into his mid-70s at least. :)

I think we'd have seen some sort of 'blurb' on the EFL website to mark the departure of a longstanding ref such as Trevor Kettle, much in the same way as Graham Salisbury last week. I wonder whether the fact that he came off the Tranmere game as 4O means that he is being lined up for a role at the L2 Final, either as ref or 4O? If that is the case, I could see him retiring after that, with some publicity to mark the occasion. 'Grandads' Woolmer & Kettle for the L2 Final? I can see it happening

I don't think these Play Off matches are awarded as valedictory presents but strictly on places in the Merit List and I would be most surprised if Mr kettle was anywhere near the top of that List. I might be forced to eat my words but I shan't bother to have the condiments ready !

I know he's not universally liked (heck a game back in 2009 really does stick in the memory), but he has improved massively in recent years. There are far worse officials on the bench.

Incidentally the game refereed by Kettle at Sunderland when they played Oxford has resulted in the Sunderland Assistant Coach receiving a six game ban, whilst Karl Robinson has got a four game ban by the FA.

Probably the strongest punishment we’ve seen for a while by the FA.

He has passed his fitness test so one can only assume he is carrying on.

Fair play to him on passing the fitness test and so being able to carry on. Perhaps he might now display some of that fitness in his matches; the last two  in which I have seen him officiate he barely got beyond a trot all afternoon and running a very central line so often was not wide enough to have a good angle to make  good decisions.

Having watched the Elite of Europe do very similar over the summer he may consider himself as a pioneer of this style 😏
