I haven't seen this particular incident but I do have some sympathy where the contact with ball or the ground causes the foot to rise and catch the opponent higher up.  The question for VAR though is "was it a clear and obvious error" not necessarily "would I have given a RC"? That said, Marriner, who on a previous occasion has stuck with his original (non-penalty) decision was obviously persuaded in this case.

Having watched the 2nd half and seen the incident only once, is it generally agreed that Fernandinho's what we might politely called a challenge only warranted a YC.  I'm tempted to use Hendo's conjecture used in his many swipes at the alleged controversial decisions that United get, "I wonder what the decision would be had that foul been by a Leeds player".  But as I say, maybe the YC was perfectly correct.

Definite red for Cooper, definite yellow for Fernandinho. Unbiased view. 😛

Having seen Cooper's challenge on MotD, I agree it was a RC.  The still picture of the contact near the City player's knee showed Marriner looking right at it with a clear view from side on but the opposite angle so I'm surprised it needed VAR intervention.  Maybe he was influenced by the contact with the ball.

As regards Fernandinho, it must be the 4th successive City game I've watched when he's been in the team and when he's got a YC. But it was only his 5th this season apparently so I assume he was missing for much of the early part of the season.  Mischievously, I was only sorry when he duly received his YC yesterday that the other City defender was fairly close alongside Fernandinho. If he'd been a few yards behind, Andre could have sent him off for DOGSO. "Very cynical" as the pundit politely put it!

Well how on earth that wasn’t a penalty to Newcastle and least a YC to Tarkowski I will never know a Bruce Lee style kick and dangerous

And just as big a surprise that VAR didn't intervene.

So we’ve now got two different tolerance levels. One for Kavanagh during open play and one for when VAR talks him into disallowing a goal based on what Sky Sports comms saying was “accidental contact” made worse by Son throwing himself to the floor as if he’s just been shot.

Perhaps after Neil Davies ? ( don't think its Ed Smart ) performance tonight I might actually want VAR. Third goal offside, he was probably thinking VAR would save him.

Bournemouth's 1st Goal incorrectly flagged as well, correctly overruled by ref.

Not sure how Kavanagh as var in wolves v sheff utd didnt ask Jones to visit the screen in the first half.
Brewster booked for a foul on Ait Nouri who had gone over the ball and connected with Brewster just above the ankle.
To me watching live it was a red card for Ait Nouri.
I can ustand Jones not seeing it as his line of vision was probably restricted by both players bodies, but was quite close to the touchline at the dugout side in wolves defending half. Not sure from the pics if Cann has a good view either.

Hope kavanagh has a better semi final tomorrow, especially if he doesnt see that challenge as a red card offence.

Agreed can’t believe Brewster was cautioned.
It’s no wonder players are frustrated when injustices like that go unpunished

Just seen it on MotD - completely agree that IMO it's a red card for the Wolves player.

As one of the vice-chairmen of the MLSZ referee committee, Sándor Puhl professionally managed the preparations for the introduction of the video judging system (VAR) in Hungary planned for the autumn.

As reported by nso.hu, at the annual general meeting of the MLSZ on May 14 (online in view of the epidemic), President Sándor Csányi spoke about the fact that many of those who have a role in the introduction of VAR have fallen ill, which may delay the introduction of the for the start of the next league season (the system has already been tested in the top league matches anyway). In his interview with our paper after the general meeting, the president of the MLSZ also said that despite the many unforeseen obstacles, there is at least an eighty percent chance that the VAR will be implemented according to the planned schedule, as it has the necessary professional background and is currently education is also taking place. To the previous interest of our paper, the following answer was received from the communication department of the Hungarian Football Association: “Implementing VAR is a complex task involving many experts. The effects of the epidemic severely hampered processes. In all cases, the association has found reassuring solutions to the problems that have arisen, so that preparations for the introduction of VAR are well under way. ”

"Premier League will use thicker lines to call marginal offside decisions with VAR next season, with the aim to give the attacker the benefit of the doubt"
