Haven’t seen an angle that shows me it’s a handball. I think it’s the shoulder - how Oliver has seen it as a handball I don’t know! Whoever the VAR is need to hang up their career because that is poor!

Based on this season's interpretation, I thought it was a correct call with the angle from the goal line. Close but a justifiable decision in my view.

Had to give it after the one given against Bournemouth in the Burnley game. At least it's consistent!

I’m sorry but the refereeing ability of VAR is absolutely and completely useless. What is the point of it, if we aren’t going to get the really clear decisions right then it needs to go!!

PL clubs have approved VAR to continue next season.

FIFA have taken over running of VAR so there will be quite a few changes to PL's use as Dale Johnson summarises - https://twitter.com/DaleJohnsonESPN/status/1291364172425498624

Fractional offsides will continue but suggestion is Premier League won't broadcast process of lines being drawn on - we will only see the final decision as is the case in the Champions League, etc.

Increased use of pitchside monitors is good I think - people don't accept the alternative.

Goalkeepers penalised if they don't have one foot on their line when saving a penalty - this was not accepted well at the women's world cup so will be interesting to see how it works here. If they're going to do this I think onus has to be on assistant to make the call in real time - if they get it wrong then VAR can correct but problem for me with WWC was clear encroachment not penalised, everyone celebrates and you have the emotion of the save, and then a minute later it's made to be retaken.

Assistants keeping flag down for tight offsides - I'm not a fan of this. I think the PL's approach has worked much better than the CL's as you at least know what the likely decision is whereas with the CL a palyer can be clearly offside, score, everyone celebrates and then the flag does up!

This is the piece from the PL website - https://www.premierleague.com/news/1749286

So, essentially the Premier League 'got it wrong' in every key aspect with its implementation.

This part of their explanation for goalkeeper encroachment confused me a bit - 'The protocol does not allow for tolerance levels, so if the goalkeeper saves a penalty and his foot is over the line then VAR will advise it is retake'. Surely it is only an infringemeent if both feet are off the line? (not over it)

Riley will be thrilled at the prospect of more monitor use!

Along with that speed, efficiency and lack of fuss!  They can keep their yellow shirts though!

Not only that, but they also produce a weekly review of the VAR use showing the communication that took place and why the decision was correct/incorrect using the laws.

I hate their use of the handball law, which is very much like the UEFA, 'we'll ignore the deliberate part of the law' approach, but otherwise the MLS seem to have the use of VAR **** and would be a great template for the PL to follow.

Well that looks hard to put together (not!)
Imagine all those incidents this year where the referee has looked surprised or resigned to having his authority stripped away. How easy it is to include video review in the referee's armoury
Straight talking, clear goals, referee able to communicate with players, clear decision making, little or no argument
(Goes off to find Mike Riley's email address to forward link)
In fairness the NFL has operated similarly in that only the referee watches the review and it is they that communicate the decision

The 1st one is the worst decision both from VAR but the view of the incident that Kevin Friend (4th Official) had of it.

Surely the villa debacle of the non goal must be on the part 2

Examples from America of how VAR conversations are incorporated into broadcast -

I wonder how long it will be before we see something like that in England/Europe? Given the absence of fans, now would be a good time to start trying something like that!
