A truly shocking performance from a shocking referee. A clear red card for SFP which has had a clear bearing on the outcome of the match. Both penalties correct but why no caution?

9 other yellows throughout the game and a fracas to finish. Game boiled over.

For too many years this referee has been at the wrong level, which is why we continue to see performances like this

Would have been a 2nd yellow on the penalty as well I believe.

Absolute cop out by the officials on several fronts. On the original point Chris Maguire should have been red carded without a doubt and young Doyle should have gone too after the tackle at the end. In these situations there's always a bit of pushing and shoving but the reason this really kicked off was the way McGrandle (who had been 'at it' all game) steamed in. Lee Johnson stepped in and whilst it wasn't particularly clever it would have been a lot worse if he hadn't because it quite easily have carried on into the crowd.
If you watch the video he steps away when others get involved and it's absolutely incredible that he is the only one who is singled out. He's been yellow carded a few times this season so he's obviously got a reputation for getting in the ear of the 4th official. He's the new Cattermole of our club and like our former player he gets no leeway(no pun intended).
If Black and White is so brilliant why do most of us have colour tellies

Understandable how Simpson missed it on a perception level because a) the contact was on his blind side and b) he would have been expecting the Sunderland player to be the one flying in because of the way the ball was rolling.

But the fourth official has a free line of sight and HAS(!!!) to detect and see this. Is EXTREMELY frustrating how FA / PGMOL use fourth officials, they have an important role to play in terms of detecting incidents on the FoP, but here it is treated as an irrelevance.

Top SG1s fulfil the role the day before/after a game as if they literally just need someone to stand there. I just finished every game at WC86 - the reserve linesmen (as they were called then) essentially just sat down in a chair and held up the subs board when required. Besides sitting down, it seems FA / PGMOL interpret the role exactly the same today :/.

To be fair i can remember some years back seeing Benteke being sent off by grandad, who could not have seen the incident as it was behind his back, on the say so of mr atkinson 4th official and correctly so.
Think that was against Sunderland.
