I can only imagine the fumes erupting from a certain user at Anfield tonight! Eyes will be poisoned.

No Referee is immune to criticism, so I won't lie when I'm saying it hasn't been his best game. A lot of the fouls he gave weren't fouls. Handball that wasn't handball. 1 or 2 fouls not given. Hopefully he'll improve, he is capable of it.

You must be watching a different game to me.  All I have so far is

4. Excellent onside decision at first goal by Mihai
8. Pen shout - not even in the box if even a foul
12. Sublime advantage before Salah missed shot.
44. Questionable handball but then I don't even know what is or isn't a handball anymore with so many incidents given by 1 ref, not given by another.
45+1' - played advantage but should have given the FK for the foul on Salah

I'm probably just being very nit picky. I know how good he can be, the Semi final last year being one example. I think that non penalty call was a foul, late lunge with no ball. Handball is certainly questionable at least. One foul he gave looked harsh to me based on others not given. There have been good bits, which you specified. Just not perfection. I probably should've phrased it better 😀

Ah the only an excellent performance instead of a masterclass so therefore poor! Something Danny Makkelie gets on the rare occasions he doesn’t put in a masterclass!!

Absolute masterclass. Always in control, got every big decision correct (although they weren’t difficult ones). Dealt with any signs of dissent immediately and effectively. The only decision I can think of that he got wrong, of any nature, was the Modric handball at the end of the first half.

Also, always amazes me how well VAR is used in the Champions League, tight offside calls resolved in about 20 seconds. Have they not been told they must delay the game for at least 3 minutes before making a decision!

Thought he was excellent, apart from a very obvious and mandatory caution missed for Fabinho in the first half.

Well the night didnt start off well, especially falling foul of missy bmb by wearing yellow.

A very good performance, always in control, respected by the players, tried to let the game breathe and flow, managed the game well without resorting to cards until left with no choice which assisted in the game being a classic.

As rustyref said he probably should have cautioned fabinho but decided to manage the situation as he did with vinicius jnr later on in the half.

The modric handball was questionable but then again what is and isnt handball in the eyes of uefa nowadays.
Some very good advantages played, AR2 with two great tight calls on two of the goals.

Overall a night Istvan can be very proud of, i am sure he will have impressed his influential Scottish observer.
