Anthony Taylor: Manchester Derby

As I've been critical of him in the past, just to say that I thought his performance in the Derby was good and even handed.  A few decisions that I might have questioned (both ways), penalty spot on.

Also came here to say what a revelation it was to have a referee in the derby be so anonymous. It was pleasing to see he let some of the harder tackles slide too. Great positioning for the penalty too.

Not a bad performance, for a United Altrincham fan.  8)
David Silva olé.

Yes, he did well, and it was a derby remarkably free of rancour apart from the bit of show-boating at the end by Sterling to which Mata reacted.

Lingard and Fernandinho committed their usual 3 fouls from memory.  I think it was Fernandinho's second that in my view probably warranted a YC but no major issues.
I hope that both Taylor and Oliver as our Elite representatives on the European and world stage continue to perform well this season.

I thought that Fernandinho was very lucky to escape a caution for his first foul, let alone his second one - I think players are increasingly committing tactical fouls higher up the pitch due to the way in which they play and referees sometimes fail to punish these sufficiently when they are breaking the play up or stopping a promising counter attack.

Other than that, I thought Taylor was very good which just emphasised the ridiculous amount of scrutiny that the appointment had come under.
