Dermot Gallagher doesn't seem to have been as impressed with the officiating! He said on Sky this morning it was 'sloppy' that a goal kick hadn't been made to be retaken when it hadn't left the penalty area.
I respect dermot he was a damngood referee but that was petty, im sure he wasnt faultless in his career and was probably sloppy on occasion too. Perhaps this sort of petty critic shoube kept in private.

I would rather listen to Gallagher any day of the week rather than the dross and claptrap Hackett churns out week after week.

Dermot was ace! He always used to referee the Hamworthy v AFCB friendly, which is widely considered the best ever friendly by AFCB fans who were around in the good old days of Leagues 1 & 2. BBQ & beers sat on the grass bank, it was always the 1st pre-season friendly & everyone went just for the BBQ, beers and socialising. Not sure anyone actually watched the game - ever! Dermot has a great sense of humour and on one occasion he showed Marcus Browning a red card in the car park as he arrived while telling him it would save him having to do it in the game. We were all in fits of laughter. Every year he'd ask me if he was still my favourite ref and I'd say yes so he'd shout over to Marcus, that's you booked again! Marcus was my fav player & the most booked player! The origins of my forum name - Marcus nicknamed me Book Me Browning, shortened to bmb over the years. Very good memories of Dermot from those games! Not sure I ever saw him in the league though!

I completely agree with you Plym-Nick. I am afraid Gallagher's criticism of Rob Jones comes under the general category of nit-picking. It is just too easy to find a technical error withon a referee's performance and miss the overarching picture of a referee in absolute control of a match. In my view, the whole Assessing/Obseving business is bedevilled by such minor criticisms and thus fails to observe the bigger picture. Assessore/Obsevers please note, great referees are not manufactured but have an inate talent for their craft. Rob Jones has it in spades, please let's celebrate it.

I liked Dermot Gallagher as a referee but he wasn’t without his errors.  If it wasn’t for that career threatening Euro
96 injury who knows what additional honours he could have picked up ?

I agree with WB.  While it is disappointing that Rob Jones missed a relatively minor error in law, I would still prefer to see him referee a match than the likes of Robinson or Davies who could pick up on such things and be generally woeful for the other 90 odd minutes.

I certainly agree with the sentiment of the second paragraph but I don't think they are mutually exclusive - you can rate Rob Jones very highly but still be critical of the officials for missing a relatively obvious offence.
