Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds -Rob Jones

Thought Rob Jones was great last night let the game flow managed it well and that made for a great game which we should have won. After that performance in my opinion there is no doubt that Jones will be in SG1 next season

I too thought he was brilliant. Always in control, decisions generally spot on and tried to let the game flow. IMO, he should get his PL break NOW while he is such good form - why wait til the end of the season when he is ready now!

Possibly yes maybe he should be promoted now alongside Madley but my only concern is that Jones is rushed and might not be used to the intensity of the premier league

Promote someone because they are the best person for the job?now that’s a novel idea!

He's the best referee in SG2 by a country mile and was excellent again last night.

Every so often a referee emerges who is, by universal acclaim "the real deal". Rob Jones appears to be one. There was some ( well notably one person ) who thought Stuart Attwell was first time around but that was not universally shared. With Jones it is, rather as in years past it was with George Courtney and more latterly Mark Clattenburg.

It is important to bring Jones on at a pace with which he is comfortable. The Premier League spotlight on referees and their decisions is far, far brighter than anywhere else. A gradual exposure to it would seem to be a sensible course

If he can handle the bigger games in the Championship so well, as he did this with this Yorkshire derby, I don't really see why he can't be given a couple or more of the lower profile Premier League games at this stage of the season and see how he does.  If as we expect, he copes well  with them, then why not promote him?

I know there are historical reasons for caution but sooner or later, if he is to advance, he will have to make the big step upwards so why not now?  If the Attwell experience is the problem, I can understand the need to be careful but, to be honest, I would say that so far Jones is in a different league anyway in terms of natural ability so the risk is minimal.

I can only agree with everything you have said in this post reflector

Dermot Gallagher doesn't seem to have been as impressed with the officiating! He said on Sky this morning it was 'sloppy' that a goal kick hadn't been made to be retaken when it hadn't left the penalty area.

I watched the game live and can't remember seeing that happen.

I noticed that at the time and then thought as there had been a delay it wasn't a goal kick but a free kick for offside?  But thinking about it don't free kicks have to go out of the area?

Yes, it's amazing the amount of players who do not understand that.

Matched only by the number of referees who don't appear to understand the encroachment rules at penalty kicks.

I respect dermot he was a damngood referee but that was petty, im sure he wasnt faultless in his career and was probably sloppy on occasion too. Perhaps this sort of petty critic shoube kept in private.
