Don't know if there are any planned promotions to SG1 for next season but if there are I would expect Josh Smith, Darren Bond, and James Linington to be the likely candidates with possibly Tim Robinson ( though he may have had his chance previously and it hasn't happened ) and as an outside bet, Thomas Bramall.

How old is Darren Bond? I thought he was one of the older SG2 referees, although I might be wrong.

Josh Smith or Tim Robinson seem quite likely. I'd imagine there will be at least one promotion to SG1.

As for next season, I'd like England, A Madley, Jones and Gillett to be pushed a bit further in terms of their appointments. I'm sure Brooks, Salsbury and Harrington will all start to receive more regular appointments - I sense it was always planned that they'd only do a very small number this season.

I think the bosses knew that there would be a few retirements at the end of this season, promoting 4 referees last year hints to that being the case.  I think all 4 will see more regular appointments next year - especially Gillett who has settled especially well into life in the top flight.  I think we'll see only 1 promotion this year - Josh Smith would be my choice as he'll still be eligible to join the FIFA list when Pawson/Taylor/Tierney leave the list.

Interviews were 2 days ago so that suggests there will be at least 1 promotion. It'll be announced in the next few days.

Hi @bmb any idea who was invited for the interview process ?

Going by appointments you have to say Robinson, Smith were the top 2 in the Championship last season.

For me without knowing who went for Interview if up to me I would promote:

Tim Robinson
Josh Smith
Rob Madley (don’t care not SG2, man is too good for L2/1, though suspect he may end up SG2

With Simon Beck retiring, do we think there will be any more additions to the SG1 assistant referees?

We see a lot about referees in here, not so much about assistants, was wondering who the best assistants are in the premier league these days?

Dan Cook and Dan Robathan for me.

Darren Cann remains one of the best in the world and it will be a very sad day when he hangs up his flags.  Sian Massey-Ellis is exceptional.

Sian Massey-Ellis is excellent from what I remember. She is still listed on the Euro 2022 list despite not running the line all year, surely she needs to return from injury very soon to make that.

I am surprised that Dan Robathon is still not FIFA listed, instead of Hatzidakis. Neil Davies seems to be doing all right as well from what I have seen.

Stuart Burt, Simon Bennett, Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn are all good as well which is why they are off to the World Cup.

Surely Dan Robathon will get the badge next time around?

If he isn’t already I wouldn’t be surprised to see Timothy Wood jump the queue as his appointments seem to shows he is highly regarded

I am less convinced by Timothy Wood, he has had a few overturns and missed the offside in the Aston Villa goal vs Liverpool. If someone was to be added to the list surely the have to replace someone or can they jsut add another name?

Those 4 go without saying for me. There's a reason they are part of our 2 top referees teams.  I hope Dan is the next AR in line for a white badge but you never know with the Ivory Towers here!

It is interesting how when Pawson/ Kavanagh referee European games they seem to use a variety of assistants rather than a particular team.

Dan Cook and Dan Robathon where the team at Wembley for the EFL cup final and where excellent they got 3 close decisions correct.
