S Vincic Rangers v Frankfurt UEL Final
« on: Thu 19 May 2022 01:20 »
Overall, i thought Vincic's style added to the game as a spectacle and made it far more enjoyable. Only stopped when he had to. Played some impressive advantages and worked with the players. The Lundstrom tackle however, was his only blemish. Yellow at a minimum and some will argue red. If the same tackle was made in the 84th minute we might have had a different outcome. After this game no one will be talking about him, except referees, which is the mark of a good performance.

If the object of refereeing is to control the proceedings well and provide the opportunity for an open well contested match then Vincic had an extremely good game. If though it is also to issue the correct sanctions when foul play occurs then I thought his excessive leniency meant that on occasions he failed in this regard.

The emphasis now seems to be on managing the game so I think Uefa will be pleased with his performance.

I have had mixed feelings about him this season but tonight he was very good. As a ref, I look for the referee, and still I forgot he was there. He controlled the game well and didn't have many major decisions to deal with apart from 2 quickfire penalty shouts that he gave himself time to (correctly) turn down

Hope he is nowhere near retirement
