S ATTWELL - West Ham v Leeds
« on: Sun 09 Jan 2022 14:59 »
I’m completely confused as to how the West Ham goal was given by VAR and no offside.

Looked like Bowen was in an offside position and influenced play by getting in the way of the keeper.

Are we talking different phases? Was he offside? Was he interfering?

I have no idea how they came to that decision.  It has to be offside, he's in an offside position right in front of the keeper and almost certainly prevented him getting his hands on the ball.

Totally agree! The decision was apparently because vlasic touched it not Bowen. But he interfered so therefore offside! Poor from Peter Bankes and Lee Betts

However, I was so annoyed at Atwell for his performance in the arsenal City game. This match has brought back my love for atwell. I rate him high in the rankings of sg1. Today, was not a hard performance but he did everything he needed to do correctly. Both yellows spot on, 2 penalty shouts correctly waved away with authority and just an overall good performance.

On another note, why are they still wearing 2021 fifa badges, and not their new 2022 ones as we are well over a week into the new year, would have thought this would have been sorted by now

So frustrating when officials get such easy decisions wrong. Clear and obvious offside for first goal. Shocking!

The problem, I suggest, is that the lawmakers/interpreters have gone into such prescriptive detail (like the terms and conditions that we mortals rarely read) in an effort to make things clear and helpful. that VAR was not allowed to give what to most people seemed an obvious case for an offside decision. It would not surprise me to learn that Messrs Bankes and Betts were as frustrated as the previous poster.

........ and that is just about the least important aspect of any refereeing critique I've read this weekend.

Be grateful you saw any badge. Josh Smith at The Valley lost his after 20 minutes of the first half, came out wearing it for the second half and lost it after about 10 minutes. Better official sticky tape required 😏

Think you might want to look at the Drameh yellow card again, he never actually touched Johnson. Attwell had perfect positioning and yet was totally conned.

I think an Independent Inquiry needs to be set up to investigate these cases of badges falling off and going missing. Has the adhesive been tampered with? Has the Government Test and Trace organisation got anything to do with it ? Are the Russians involved ? Has  Boris Johnson been personally supervising the matter ?  Is the FA complicit ?  So many questions which require answers. I would suggest a retired High Court Judge be appointed as Chair and I am very willing to serve as Counsel to the Inquiry.

A pertinent line of enquiry may be to discover why it appears to be that it is FA badges which are falling off while FIFA ones stay in place. This might be a very sensitive area involving royalty and the Duke of Cambridge's role with the FA
