S ATTWELL - Chelsea v Man U
« on: Sat 22 Oct 2022 19:13 »
Another penalty given for holding in the box.

We had the same with Scott at Fulham last week and now against McTominay.

There seems to be a big focus on it by officials recently.

This one was very, very obvious though, it belonged more in rugby or wrestling, not football.

Attwell did very well. Nice to see officials picking up on holding in the box. Shame Paul Tierney didn’t see Allison being hauled back (instead somehow giving a free kick against him)

About time holding in the box was made illegal.

Attwell and Hooper have Been the best referees this season. Better than Taylor and Oliver for me

Attwell on the whole did a very good job in helping the game , a couple of YC’s missed but that’s all he got wrong for me , the penalty was spot on and what on earth is Mctominay thinking especially when we have VAR

A very assured performance from Attwell - proving that Taylor and Oliver are not the only ones who can perform well in the big matches.  I've been impressed with Attwell every time I have seen him this season.

McTominay has been summoned to join up with the Scotland Rugby League team for the remaining World Cup games.

Manchester United players once again playing Ring-a-ring-roses round the referee, add this one to the other charge against Newcastle. Bruno very lucky not to pick up a yellow ----again!
Referee's decision used to be final!

Agreed re players trying to delay the penalty kick being taken, the sooner points deductions are imposed for players surrounding the referee and delaying the re start of play especially at penalty kicks  the better. It is gamesmanship of the highest order.
Wait though points deduction sanctions would quickly be appealed and overturned!!

What happened to the AR playing on in an attacking move rather than flagging for a non-offside?

Just seen the arsenal highlights and a similar incident involving Jesus but no penalty given. I don’t mind mctominay’s decision if they are going to be given in every game throughout the season but this isn’t the case

It seems referees are on the look out more often for these offences of recent.
Darren England today correctly gave a pen for a clear shirt pull on Mings from a corner.
