Roma vs Leicester - Srjdan Jovanovic
« on: Thu 05 May 2022 22:14 »
I have to chose my words wisely as I don’t want to get banned HOWEVER

that was THE worst performance by a team of officials (mainly the referee) that I have ever witnessed.

How the hell did he get a semi final when he can’t even get the simplest of decisions.

Don’t get me wrong, Leicester were poor and probably didn’t deserve to win, however Mr Jovanovic was a disgrace tonight

Examples of incorrect decisions? Was he consistent to both sides? What could/should he have done differently?

I didn't see it and maybe he had a bad game but I agree with the point RCG makes. If we are going to label a referee as a disgrace (not that I think we really should) then I think the post should include some analysis or discussion of the incident. Plus I would be genuinely interested to hear your thoughts on where he went wrong.

I’ve learnt from experience it’s best not to write a post immediately after the game when. You might still be angry or aggrieved, always best to sleep on it think it through and try to reason your statements.
My views are my own and not that of rate the ref .

Mr Jovanovic had an extremely poor game and looked well out of his depth in all honesty, without there being any major decisons in the game. The only decisions that could have been considered anywhere near ‘big decisions’ were:

Penalty appeal for a foul on Fofana by Smalling after 3 minutes for a holding offence from a corner. Appeared to be a clear foul, but a subjective decision and I can support VAR not getting involved.

Possible red card for Mancini after 41 minutes for SFP. Again I can support a yellow card here but VAR wouldn’t have overturned a red.

Other than that, a host of basic decisions called incorrectly. Listed below to the best of my memory:
First Half:
Handball called against Dewsbury-Hall despite it being hit against his face.
Incorrect fouls given against Dewsbury-Hall, Vardy, Ricardo, Pellegrini and Karsdorp.
Second Half:
Missed yellow card for Evans for reckless foul from behind.
Incorrect fouls given against Dewsbury-Hall, Karsdorp and Zaniolo.
Obvious errors when giving a goal kick instead of a corner (Perez) and throw to Roma instead of Leicester (Justin).
Correct caution for Fofana and Maddison.

It must also be said he got the red card for Chris Evans after the final whistle correct, assuming he has said something out of turn.

Very disappointing for a UEFA semi final, albeit the lesser of the competitions.

Having watched that game I can confirm that it was a very poor performance from all officials especially Jovanovic and AR1.

AR1 missed a clear offside at one point.

It felt like the whole game he seemed to ignore fouls then give free kicks for things that shouldn’t have been free kicks. Commentators and both players where confused by him.

AR1 gave a freekick when Vardy won the ball right in front of him. Then gave a freekick when there was no contact whatsoever with the player(also right in front of him)

Furthermore, there was a strange situation with the 40 that ended up with a thrown being given initially but then a drop ball was taken.

Then he stopped play put his hand in the air and then about 10 seconds later blew for half time and confused a few people

Really poor performance for me just like Orsato yesterday.

First time I have seen Jovanovic referee and he seemed unfit almost and unable to keep up just like Orsato

I think Evans won the ball and it was from the side- should be play in for me. But if it’s a freekick it should be yellow.

I think everyone has covered points of throughout the game - the most frustrating and disappointing thing about the whole performance was how many ‘simple’ decisions he got wrong. If it’s one or 2 then you can understand but when there is so many then it’s not good enough

Always amazes me the double standards within football between players' performances and officials' performances, even within our own refereeing community... a centre mid can't complete a successful pass all game, or a striker can't get a single shot on target, and it's 'unlucky' or 'a bad day at the office' - a referee makes some incorrect decisions (whether objectively or subjectively) and they're "the worst I've ever seen", "a disgrace" etc. etc. Bemusing.

Its the number of simple decisions which he got wrong though, and people do say thats the worse central midfield performance of all time as well

Posting here rather than creating a new thread. This is a clip from the tunnel of the West Ham game last night.

That’s a mandatory red card at amateur level. Very disappointing to hear that from such a player.

Little the referee can do here as the game had finished (I assume) and he'd left the field. As it's been caught on camera I imagine UEFA will quite rightfully  charge Rice.

Half a match ban and 30pence fine incoming.

A suspended ban? Surely hanging is a little harsh.
