Rob JONES Leicester City v Manchester City
« on: Sun 30 Oct 2022 01:54 »
Can someone please enlighten me if possible, why Rob Jones and Team wore the light blue shirt when Leicester were at home and wearing Blue? Yes a different shade but surely there were better options for the referee to wear.

I thought the same, very strange choice of attire!

Weird game for Jones, who I am a big fan of. Didn’t really have a whole lot to do in the game, but seemed to over manage, which could have back fired.

Clear missed cautions for De Bruyne (possibly twice), Tielemans and Cancelo. You could argue that Rodri and Grealish deserved yellows too for sprinting half way across the pitch to remonstrate about not getting their own way - but we’ve come to expect them to get away with this. As usual, nothing done about Pep walking on the pitch whenever he liked.

Can’t say Jones had a bad game, but must be careful when trying to manage too much.

Poor ! Compare it to Bobby on Saturday afternoon and there you have chalk and cheese …. Missed 3/4 yellows easy !! Just all round poor … he needs a good round of 4ths to Bobby Madley

Perhaps it was because their preferred choice of colour would have clashed with Man City tops?  The colour that darest not speak its name.

Was wondering when the “Bobby” fan club would jump into action.

I watched Jones at Southampton last week and at Leicester yesterday and found him to be unintrusive and sensible and also consistent.

Orange would have been the better choice.

I harp on about the colours every season - it’s beyond me why the PL (whoever officially decides) finds it so difficult to get such a simple thing right. Surely they just have a sample photo of all the kits (players & GKs) and produce a match sheet with the ref colour on ( like UEFA/FIFA)?

Firstly, it would help if, in England, we had the 5 colours available when new kits are brought out, as in other countries.

Officials wear same colour as a GK (particularly black) week in week out, even though there is at least one other option available. No idea why?

In this game, the orange clashed with a GK, but black would’ve been fine (City’s kit was mostly yellow). The light blue/green was alright but did look a bit odd.

I absolutely agree. It is such an obvious thing, most of the time, to ensure that the match officials are in a totally different colour to both sets of outfield players and goalkeepers that it makes me wonder whether or not these colour clashes ( particularly with goalkeepers ) are not somehow contrived though for the life of me I cannot understand why this should be.

In the Football League it was up to the referee to determine what colour shirt he wore, it was not decided beforehand. I often used to accompany a friend to his matches and the very first thing he would do on arrival at a ground was to dump his kit in the match officials' changing room and then visit the changing rooms of the two teams ( which often also provided an opportunity for a bit of banter with the kit man ) look at the colours and then decide what the officiating team would wear. The default was always black unless either outfield players or goalkeepers were wearing black or a very dark solid colour. In those days there were four colours available and only once do I recall that all four colours were being worn by the teams so the choice was made to go with a colour which resembled one of the goalkeepers.

The purple can stay away though! 😂

I was interested to see how Rob did as I have not seen much of him. I thought his foul detection was good, but his leniency was a bit errant, considering that on another day De Bruyne could have seen three YC's. Rodri could also have picked one up on another day, along with Tielemans and Vardy for his blatant dissent.

Largely kept himself to himself, but overall a bit meh.
